WORCESTER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College volleyball team grabbed a 3-0 win over Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Thursday.

Saint Anselm posted set scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-18 in the 3-0 win.

Sophomore Gabby Belcher (Buckeye, Ariz.) posted a career-high 31 assists in the win over the Greyhounds. She added four kills and four digs for the Hawks.

Junior Audrey Wetjen (Henderson, Nev.) tied a match-high with 10 kills on 17 swings, good for a .529 hitting percentage in the match. Classmate Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) added eight kills and 14 digs for the Hawks, trailing senior Lauren Casey (Jefferson City, Mo.) who recorded a match-high 15 digs.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the opening set following a kill by Brown. The Greyhounds would battle back in the set and draw even at nine following four consecutive points for the hosts. After trading of points and runs, Saint Anselm would lead 20-18 following a service error and would go on to net each of the next three points to take a 23-18 lead. The teams swapped scores as the Hawks would set one by a 25-20 score.

The teams battled back-and-forth early in the second set. With the match tied at 10, Assumption would take a four-point lead at 16-12 after scoring on six of the next eight points. Saint Anselm would respond with a 5-2 run to knot the set at 20. A Saint Anselm attack error would give the Greyhounds a 21-20 lead but five consecutive errors from Assumption pushed the Hawks to a 25-21 set two and a 2-0 edge in the match.

After trading of points to open set three, the Hawks used seven consecutive points and to take a 13-5 lead, capped by a kill from Wetjen After an Assumption score, the Hawks registered five of the next six points to take a commanding 18-7 lead. The Greyhounds slowly worked their way back into the set, cutting the lead to as little as four at 22-18 but a pair of kills from senior Kristen O'Keefe (Medford, Mass.) and one from Brown gave the Hawks a 25-18 set three and the match in straight sets.
