PREVIEW: Women's ice hockey battles No. 7/7 Quinnipiac in home-and-home series

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team will play a home-and-home series with nationally-ranked Quinnipiac University on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8.

Friday's opening puck drop from Sullivan Arena is scheduled for 3 p.m. while Saturday's game from Hamden, Conn. is slated for a 3 p.m. start.

The Hawks dropped both of their most recent contests, falling to Maine by a 6-3 score in a non-conference tilt on Oct. 1 and then to Concordia in an exhibition game in overtime, 3-2, on Oct. 2. Saint Anselm enters play on Friday with a 0-3-0 record in the early going. Following the home-and-home with Quinnipiac, the Hawks host Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15 in the team's New England Women's Hockey Alliance opener.

The Bobcats are ranked No. 7 in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine national polls and are 4-0-0 in the 2022-23 season. The team most recently grabbed a 2-0 win over New Hampshire on Oct. 2. Following the two-game set with the Hawks, the Bobcats open ECAC Hockey play at Harvard on Saturday, Oct. 15.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Senior Devin Porazinski (Parker, Colo.) and sophomores Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) netted one goal each in the team's loss to Maine.
  • Junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and freshman Brooklyn Pancoast (Helena, Mont.) found the twine in the exhibition game against the reigning U Sports Women's Ice Hockey National Champion, Concordia.
  • Six student athletes including Tulchinsky and Pancoast recorded an assist in the tilt with the Black Bears.
  • Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) stopped 47 shots on goal against Maine and has made 36 or more saves in each official game this season. The contest marked Kelley's 15th career game with 40 or more saves in a game. Kelley owns a 5.31 goals-against average and a 0.891 save percentage.
  • Junior Savannah Popick (Windsor, Conn.) leads the Hawks nine blocked shots. Senior Gabrielle Huson (Edina, Minn.) and sophomore Heather McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.) follow closely with eight and seven blocked shots each. As a team, Saint Anselm has blocked 51 shots, good for an average of 17 per game through the team's first three tilts.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
  • Quinnipiac is entering play on Friday with three consecutive shutouts, posting wins over Maine, Boston College, and New Hampshire by 3-0, 5-0, and 2-0 scores.
  • Madison Chantler leads the Bobcats with four goals scored this season. Chantler was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Oct. 4.
  • As a team, Quinnipiac has netted 13 goals while allowing just two. 13 student-athletes have at least one point through the opening four games.
  • Olivia Mobley has a team-high five assists and leads the squad with six points. Lexie Adzija and is tied with Chantler for second on the Bobcats with four points.
  • Catie Boudiette and Logan Angers have drawn two starts each for the Bobcats. Boudiette has not yet allowed a goal in just under 120 minutes in the goal for Quinnipiac. Boudiette has turned aside 45 shots on goal. Angers has a 0.96 goals-against average and a 0.939 save percentage in just under 125 minutes in net. She has stopped 31 shots on target.
ALL-TIME vs. QUINNIPIAC
  • The Hawks and Bobcats will be meeting for the third and fourth times in the all-time series with Quinnipiac leading by a 2-0-0 record.
  • Quinnipiac netted a 4-3 win to open the series on Oct. 8, 2021 and followed it up with a 5-0 victory on Oct. 9, 2021, both from Hamden, Conn.
  • Friday's contest will be the first played at Sullivan Arena between the two programs.
