No. 9 field hockey blanks Saint Michael's, 2-0

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The ninth-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team logged a shutout of Saint Michael's College on Wednesday, winning by a 2-0 score.

Saint Anselm, ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association, improves to 3-4 overall on the year and to 2-1 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Saint Michael's (1-7, 1-3 NE10) has now been outscored by a 10-0 margin on the season by the Hawks.

The Hawks controlled the pace for the majority of the game, forcing Saint Michael's into conceding 16 of the game's 21 penalty corners. Saint Anselm also enjoyed a distinct edge in shots taken (24-to-5) and put 14 of those 24 directly on goal.

Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the game's 17th minute, knocking home a rebound off a penalty corner. Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) tapped home a pass from junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) just 2:37 into the second half, rounding out the scoring.

Junior netminder Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made three saves for her 11th career shutout – she needs just one more to tie Katherine Sears '17 for second place all-time in team history. Courtney Watt made 12 saves on 14 shots for Saint Michael's in the loss.

Saint Anselm returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 8, hosting Southern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m.
