Saint Anselm is riding a two-game losing streak, falling to Franklin Pierce in a 4-3 nailbiter on Friday, Sept. 30. On Sunday, the Hawks dropped a 6-1 decision on the road at Le Moyne and will look to right the ship this week.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Freshman Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) was selected as the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. She racked up four NE10 victories at No. 1 singles, defeating Assumption, Bentley, Franklin Pierce and Le Moyne in order.
  • Garbo was also partnered with sophomore Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) at No. 1 doubles, racking up 6-3 and 6-0 victories over Assumption and Bentley to start the week.
  • On the season, Garbo is 7-2 at No. 1 singles and presently has a five-match winning streak at No. 1 singles. She is the first Saint Anselm women's tennis student-athlete to reach that many No. 1 singles wins in a season since Jess Perkins '18 had 15 as a senior in 2017-18.
  • The Hawks snapped a 12-match losing streak to Assumption with its 5-2 win on Monday, Sept. 26. The team's win over Bentley was also just the second for the Hawks in the last 20 meetings between the two programs.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
  • Adelphi is coming off a tough 6-1 loss at home to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. Julia Kielan's match at No. 5 singles was the lone victory for the Panthers as she went the distance in a three-set win to earn the point for Adelphi.
  • Just a week earlier, freshman Sanne Selmer Gilje became the first student-athlete in program history to be crowned an ITA Division II East Region Women's Singles Champion. She did not drop a set across six matches and will be eligible to compete at the ITA Cup in Georgia in mid-October.
  • Prior to the convincing defeat versus SNHU, the Panthers had not dropped a game against Molloy, Saint Michael's, Bentley or American International from Friday, Sept. 9 through Tuesday, Sept. 20.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • The Yellow Jackets carry an 0-6 record into play on Saturday, falling in three home and three road matches to date. In total, American International has lost 11 matches in a row dating back to last season's 5-2 victory over Saint Michael's on Oct. 3, 2021.
  • The closest match for the Yellow Jackets came on Thursday, Sept. 29, a 5-2 defeat at Bentley. American International forfeited No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles in its most recent fixture at Southern New Hampshire.
  • Versus the Penmen, Victoria Azcona posted the closest result at No. 2 singles, falling by a 6-4, 6-3 score.

ALL-TIME vs. ADELPHI, AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

  • Adelphi has never lost to the Hawks in 12 meetings. The very first fixture in the all-time series was played on Oct. 18, 2009, a 9-0 defeat on the Hilltop.
  • Saint Anselm holds a 35-1 advantage over American International after opening the all-time series against the Yellow Jackets with 28 consecutive victories.
