PREVIEW: Men's soccer to battle two nationally-ranked foes

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team plays nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce in its non-conference finale on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before hosting Adelphi on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Prior to the start of Saturday's match against Adelphi, the Hawks will honor eight student-athletes with a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The Hawks, who were ranked ninth in the most recent United Soccer Coaches (USC) East Region poll, dropped a non-conference game to Saint Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 28 before falling by a 2-1 score to Bentley on Oct. 1. Saint Anselm moves to 6-4-0 on the season with a 3-3-0 mark in Northeast-10 Conference matches. Following the contest with the Panthers, the Hawks will play three of their final four games of the regular season, starting at Saint Michael's on Oct. 11.

The Ravens are ranked No. 2 in the most recent USC National Poll and are in the top spot of the East Region. Most recently, the Ravens downed Dominican (N.Y.) by a 3-0 score in non-conference action, improving to 11-0-1 this season. Against conference opponents, Franklin Pierce in 5-0-1 this season.

The Panthers are second in the East Region and No. 17 in the national poll. After winning three consecutive games, Adelphi has played to a draw in each of their last two matches including a 1-1 tie at Assumption on Oct. 1 which moves them to 5-1-4 overall and 2-1-2 in conference tilts.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Prior to Saturday's match against Adelphi, the Hawks will honor seniors Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.), Kyle White (Danvers, Mass.), Kevin Jordan (Danvers, Mass.), Jackson Bukunt (Upton, Mass.), Michael Fortin (Goffstown, N.H.), Jonathan Alves (Peabody, Mass.), and Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.), and graduate student Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) with a Senior Day ceremony.
  • Fortin and Silverstein netted goals for the Hawks last week as Fortin found the back of the net for the first time this season against Saint Thomas Aquinas before Silverstein netted his third of the season to open the scoring at Bentley.
  • Bukunt leads the Hawks with four goals and has one assist for a team-high nine points. Elliot follows closely with eight points on three goals and two assists.
  • Elliot, Fortin, and sophomore Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.) are tied for the team lead with two assists each.
  • Underhill has started all 10 games for the Hawks this season. He owns a 1.50 goals-against average and a 0.797 save percentage. Underhill's 59 saves this season lead the NE10 while his save percentage is fifth highest.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • Braudilio Rodrigues leads the NE10 with 12 goals scored and with 29 points while assisting on five others to get to his point total.
  • Younes Addar and Marc Lopez are tied for second on the team with five goals each. Lopez is tied for second on the team in points while Addar is fourth.
  • Jonas Cervera Anchel leads the conference with seven helpers and is tied for second on the Ravens with 11 points.
  • Kosta Maniatis has started 10 games for the Ravens this season. He is 9-0-1 in those games with a league-low 0.30 goals-against average and a 0.833 save percentage which is second in the conference.
  • Franklin Pierce leads the NE10 in shots (258), goals scored (36), shots per game (21.5), shots on goal (132), assists (27), corner kicks (88), and shutouts (9).
SCOUTING ADELPHI
  • Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca leads the Panthers offense with eight goals and 18 points. Victor Castel follows closely with 16 points on six goals and four helpers.
  • Descalzo Rocca is second in the conference in both goals and points.
  • Castel and Matteo Lazzarini are tied for the Adelphi lead with four assists each and are tied for third in the conference in assists.
  • Daniel De La Heras has started eight games for Adelphi this season. He is 3-1-4 in those matches with a 1.00 goals-against average and a 0.765 save percentage. Harry Beasley has drawn two starts and owns a 1.15 goals-against average and a 0.667 save percentage.
  • The Panthers rank second in the conference in goals scored (21), shots on goal (68), and assists (18).
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE, ADELPHI
  • The Hawks and Ravens will be meeting for the 42nd time in the men's soccer all-time series. Franklin Pierce owns a 26-13-2 record against Saint Anselm.
  • Franklin Pierce has won 10 of the last 11 meetings over Saint Anselm including in last season's meeting by a 2-0 score from Rindge, N.H. on Oct. 6.
  • Saint Anselm and Adelphi are meeting for the ninth time in men's soccer with the Panthers holding a 7-1-0 record over the Hawks.
  • Adelphi captured a 5-0 win on Oct. 23 to extend its current winning streak to six matches in the all-time series.
