Field hockey logs sixth shutout of 2022, blanking American International

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team secured yet another shutout, this time on the road Saturday against American International College.

Winning by a 4-0 margin, Saint Anselm moves to 9-5 overall on the season after claiming its eighth Northeast-10 Conference victory in 10 chances. American International (2-13, 1-9 NE10) was limited to just three shot attempts in defeat.

Junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) tallied two goals with junior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) rounding out the scoring. Davis has now scored twice for the second consecutive game and has 13 points (5-3=13) in her last four games.

Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.), senior Avery Tucker (Westbrook, Maine), freshman Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) and Malloy added assists to power the Hawks to victory. With eight goals and 19 points in her last four games, Malloy's 31 points (13-5=31) to date are the fourth-most in single season history.

Davis and Malloy each scored in the game's first 9:42, creating an early cushion for the Hawks. Breznyak's third career goal followed just 24 seconds into the third quarter and Davis rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter, thanks to a feed from Malloy in the 55th minute.

The Hawks now have 15 shutouts in the team's last 23 victories dating back to last season, thanks to solid defensive play and a two-save performance from Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) in net. She now has 12 career shutouts, ranking second all-time in team history.

Three of the final four games of the regular season will be played at home. Saint Anselm will honor its graduating student-athletes prior to the Saturday, Nov. 5 contest against Molloy at 5 p.m.
