The Hawks split their two-game NEWHA series against Long Island University as Saint Anselm grabbed a 3-2 win on Oct. 21 before suffering a 2-0 loss on Oct. 22. Saint Anselm enters the weekend series with the Pioneers at 2-7-0 overall and 2-2-0 in NEWHA contests. The Hawks will play a third consecutive game in Shelton, Conn. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they meet Post University for a 3:30 p.m. opening puck drop against the Eagles.
The Pioneers last played on Oct. 15 against the Hawks, which went Saint Anselm's way by a 7-0 score. Sacred Heart moved to 3-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in league games following the two-game series on the Hilltop. After hosting Saint Anselm, the Pioneers will head to Minnesota State University – Mankato for a two non-league tilts on Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5.
HAWKS NOTES
- Junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) was named the NEWHA Player of the Week after netting two goals including the game-winner in the Hawks 3-2 win over LIU on Oct. 21. Tulchinsky has three goals, three assists, and six points in nine games for the Hawks, all of which are second on the squad.
- Sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) is tied for second in the NEWHA with four goals and is tied for the league lead with seven points.
- Junior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) leads the Hawks and is tied for fifth in the league with four assists. Tulchinsky, Turner, and freshman Brooklyn Pancoast (Helena, Mont.) all have three assists each this season.
- Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) made 47 saves between the two contests over the weekend and is now tied with Amy Zappen '12 for the top spot in career saves in program history at 1,360.
- On the season, Kelley leads the conference with 320 saves and owns a 4.20 goals-against average and a 0.896 save percentage.
- Saint Anselm leads the NEWHA in shots with 203 and in power play opportunities at 34. The Hawks are one of two teams in the league with a short-handed goal in the 2022-23 campaign.
- The Hawks have netted four goals with the extra skater this season, converting at a rate of 11.8%. The team has been shorthanded on 38 occasions and is operating at 77.8%.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
- Paige McNeil leads the Pioneers offense with four goals scored. She has added one assist for five points which is tied for third on the squad.
- Kailey Smith is tied for the league lead with six helpers this season. Her seven points are tied with turner for the top spot in the NEWHA.
- Kelley Solak is also tied for the league lead in points as she has found the back of the net twice while registering a helper on five others.
- Four Pioneers including McNeil have recorded five points through the first seven games of the season for Sacred Heart.
- Molly Elmore has started four games in the goal for Sacred Heart. She is 2-2-0 with a 2.75 goals-against average and a 0.908 save percentage. Carly Greene has drawn the other three starts and owns a 3.04 goals-against and a 0.922 save percentage. Greene's save percentage ranks third in the NEWHA while Elmore's is fifth. The duo also sits inside the top-five in goals-against average.
- The Pioneers have allowed just one goal while on the penalty kill, successfully killing off penalties at 95.5%. The team has a league-high seven power play goals, good for a 30.4% success rate.
ALL-TIME vs. SACRED HEART
- The Hawks and Pioneers are meeting for the 39th and 40th times in program history. Saint Anselm is 25-10-3 against Sacred Heart all-time.
- The teams split their weekend series earlier this season as Sacred Heart posted a 6-3 win on Oct. 14 before Saint Anselm grabbed a 7-0 win on Oct. 15.
- In the last six meetings between the programs, Saint Anselm owns a 3-2-1 record.
