Malloy's third hat trick of 2022 powers field hockey past Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team exploded for six goals on Wednesday, powering past visiting Franklin Pierce University by a 6-2 margin at Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm (8-5, 7-2 NE10) has won seven of its first nine games in Northeast-10 Conference play, running its winning streak to three. Franklin Pierce (4-9, 3-5 NE10) has lost twice in a row, conceding six games for the second consecutive game. The Hawks have now won 34 of the last 38 games played at Grappone Stadium.

Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) scored three goals for the second consecutive game and now owns three hat tricks on the season, matching the program record set by Hannah Friend '20 in 2017. In her last three games, she has scored seven goals with two assists for 16 points (7-2=16).

Junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) added two goals in the winning effort, giving her a helper in three consecutive games for Saint Anselm. She now ranks seventh on the single-season assist list for the Hawks with eight so far this season across 13 games, all starts.

Malloy scored her ninth goal of the season just 1:23 into the contest, hammering home a Davis feed to create the early advantage. Franklin Pierce scored just 1:25 later, bringing the game even on a nice goal by Silver Clukey that was set up by a strong individual effort by Caity Hazley.

The Hawks scored five consecutive goals before a late tally by the Ravens in the 40th minute. Malloy capped off the hat trick with two strikes of her own and was joined in the goal column twice by Davis and once by sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.).

Graduate student Jackie Gaumer (Thornton, N.H.) and senior Maddison LeBeau (Westbrook, Maine) also picked up assists for the Hawks, the former setting a career-high with her third in the victory and the latter securing her first collegiate point in her 60th career game.

Sophomore Chloe Kapsambelis (Merrimack, N.H.) added her first assist of the season and classmate Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) added her second of the 2022 campaign as well on Wednesday, coming on late in the game to help Saint Anselm finish with a 22-9 shots advantage.

The goalkeeping tandem of Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) and Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) combined to make five saves on seven shots for Saint Anselm. The pairing of Addy Araneo and Mackenzie Potvin, a native of Goffstown, N.H., made seven saves on 13 chances in defeat.

The Hawks head to American International on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.
