PREVIEW: Women's soccer hosts Southern Conn. St. in regular-season finale

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team concludes its regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 against Southern Connecticut State University with a Northeast-10 Conference battle from Melucci Field, starting at 3 p.m.

The Hawks currently hold the seventh spot in the NE10 standings with a 4-6-1 record and 13 points. Saint Anselm grabbed a 2-1 win over crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 19, which brings the team to its conference record and 8-6-1 on the season. Saint Anselm moved into the 10th spot in the most recent United Soccer Coaches East Region poll.

The Owls have clinched a postseason berth and are currently the fourth seed entering the final week of games. Southern Connecticut State is 7-5-3 overall and 5-2-3 in NE10 matches after downing Bentley University by a 2-0 score on Oct. 22. Southern Connecticut State is eighth in the East Region according to the United Soccer Coaches poll that was released on Tuesday.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Junior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Kayli Porter (Wakefield, Mass.) netted one goal each in the Hawks win over the Penmen while senior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) posted one assist.
  • Gotobed now leads the team with five goals and 14 points. She is tied for the team lead with four assists. She also leads the Hawks with 44 shots attempted while ranking second with 20 of them on target.
  • Sophomore Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) is second on the team with four goals and 12 points while sitting in a tie with Gotobed for first on the squad with four assists.
  • Porter and sophomore Faith Lee (North Andover, Mass.) are the two other Saint Anselm student-athletes with multiple goals on the season while nine Hawks have netted one goal in 2022.
  • Senior Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) made her third consecutive start against Southern New Hampshire and made four saves on five shots on goal which earned her a spot on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll. On the season, Macaluso is 2-1-0 with a 1.27 goals-against average and a 0.800 save percentage.
  • Freshman Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) started the first 12 games of the season for Saint Anselm and owns a 6-5-1 record with a 1.35 goals-against average and a 0.771 save percentage.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
  • Kelsey Burr leads the Owls offense with four goals and 11 points while sitting in a tie for second with three assists.
  • Taylor Hennig is tied for third in the NE10 with six assists. Burr, Kaylee Slavik, and Alexie Rosado are tied for second on the team with three assists each.
  • Southern Connecticut State holds is plus-one in goal differential. The team has scored 18 goals while allowing 17.
  • Abby Allen has started all 15 games for the Owls and has totaled 76 saves, good for a 0.817 save percentage and a 1.15 goals-against average. Allen is tied for third in conference in saves and fifth in save percentage. Allen leads the conference with seven shutouts this season.
  • Allen was selected to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts in the 2-0 win for the Owls over Bentley.
ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
  • The Hawks and Owls are meeting for the 23rd time in women's soccer. Southern Connecticut State owns a 12-7-3 record in the all-time series.
  • Saint Anselm posted a 2-0 win over Southern Connecticut State on Oct. 23, 2021, marking the most recent meeting between the two sides.
  • Senior Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) and Gotobed netted the Hawks goals in that match while Macaluso turned aside a career-high 14 shots on goal.
