DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team picked up a convincing 4-0 victory on the road against Mercy (N.Y.) College on Saturday.
The Hawks improve to 7-5 overall on the season and to 6-2 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The Mavericks drop to 4-4 on the year, having lost three consecutive NE10 fixtures to drop to 3-4 versus league foes.
Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) had a hand in all four goals, assisting on the first goal of the game by junior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) and scoring each of the next three to create the final score. Saint Anselm enjoyed a 26-8 advantage in shots taken and was awarded 11 of the game's 15 penalty corners.
Malloy's seven-point afternoon equals a program record matched prior by only Carly LaCasse '22 (Oct. 12, 2019 vs. Pace) and Hannah Friend '20 (Sept. 17, 2017 at Saint Thomas Aquinas).
Malloy now has 10 points across her last two games, scoring a goal and an assist at home against Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday before her seven-point outburst on Saturday. Additionally, Malloy has recorded at least one point in all but one of her last six games.
Davis, who also set up the second goal of the day for Malloy, scored just 7:40 into the game for Saint Anselm to earn what would prove to be the game-winning goal. The Hawks also tested the defensive unit for Mercy directly, forcing the hosts to make four defensive saves.
The tandem of Alexandra Giordano and Lauren Viscione combined to make 14 saves on 18 shots faced. Hawks backstop Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made three saves in 45 minutes before yielding to sophomore Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) for 15 scoreless minutes of play.
Moving to 8-1 all-time against Mercy, Saint Anselm turns its attention to Franklin Pierce as the Hawks will host the Ravens this Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
