MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team dropped its exhibition game to Concordia (Canada) by a 3-2 score in overtime on Sunday.
The Stingers, who are the reigning U Sports Women's Ice Hockey National Champions, held a 35-14 edge in shots on goal in the contest. Saint Anselm will play a home-and-home series against nationally-ranked Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8 with Friday's game starting at 3 p.m. from Sullivan Arena.
The Stingers needed just nine seconds to find the back of the net in overtime as they won the opening faceoff to start the extra frame.
Emily Lavoie cashed in on a cross-ice pass to give the visitors a 3-2 win.
Earlier in the game, junior
Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) opened the scoring at 7:10 of the first period when she wristed home a shot from the slot on a feed from sophomore
Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.).
The Hawks would lead until 17:29 in the second period when
Emmy Fecteau tied the score on a snap shot from just above the left circle.
Freshman
Brooklyn Pancoast (Helena, Mont.) gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead with a goal at 2:49 of the final regulation period. Junior
Abigail Blair (Grand Island, N.Y.) won a puck battle in the corner and sent the puck toward Pancoast who was circling the goal.
Jessymaude Drapeau fired a shot by sophomore goaltender
Annabella Lalande (Plantagenet, Ontario) at 12:52 of the third period which knotted the score at two.
Senior
Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) and Lalande split time in the contest in the goal for the Hawks. Kelley stopped all 12 shots on goal she faced while Lalande made 20 saves.
