Field hockey takes down Southern New Hampshire under the lights

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team picked up a 3-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday at Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm (6-5, 5-2 NE10) improves to 14-0 in the all-time series over Southern New Hampshire (3-8, 2-4 NE10) while winning the team's fifth game in Northeast-10 Conference play. With the victory, the Hawks also take a 7-4 lead in the Queen City Cup standings.

Head Coach Carolyn King-Robitaille picked up her 125th career victory for the Hawks. Among active coaches in NCAA Division II, King-Robitaille ranks eighth in wins. Since joining Saint Anselm prior to the 2012 season, she has led the team to all five of its NCAA Division II postseason appearances, including a National Runner-Up finish in 2019.

The Hawks opened up a 1-0 lead in the first half and scored just 3:54 into the third quarter, capturing a 2-0 lead. Southern New Hampshire halved the hosts advantage before a late Saint Anselm goal created the final score of 3-1.

Off a penalty corner, senior Joanna Archambault (Andover, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season at 4:29 off a right-to-left cross by classmate Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.). After the injection, Archambault camped out right near the left post where she was ready to receive the Malloy feed for the game's first goal.

Malloy put home her own rebound in the game's 34th minute, upping her team's lead to two with her sixth marker of the season. She is in the midst of a career season at Saint Anselm, posting 15 total points of offense via six goals and three assists.

After Annemartin Christis scored for the Penmen less than four minutes later, junior Shannon Walsh (Chelmsford, Mass.) easily scored off a brilliant redirection by Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) in front of the Penmen net. In total, the Hawks fired 20 of the game's 28 shots and held a shots-on-goal advantage of 11-to-3.

Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) had two saves on three shots, earning the win. Emma Peeters made eight saves on 11 total shots faced, drawing the loss in goal for the Penmen.

Saint Anselm heads to Mercy (N.Y.) this Saturday, Oct. 22 for a 1 p.m. NE10 game.
