PREVIEW: Men's soccer concludes regular season against Franklin Pierce, Le Moyne

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team hosts nationally-ranked Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 before closing the regular season at Le Moyne College on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Hawks improved to 7-7-0 overall and 4-5-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play with a 2-1 win over American International College on Oct. 15. Entering play on Wednesday, Saint Anselm holds the seventh seed in the NE10 standings and is looking to return to the conference postseason for the first time since the 2009 season.

The Ravens, who are the top ranked team in the most recent United Soccer Coaches' national poll, downed Assumption on Oct. 15 by a 5-0 score to remain unbeaten at 14-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference matches. The team heads to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, Oct. 22 before wrapping up the regular season at home against Adelphi University on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The Dolphins suffered a 2-0 loss to Saint Michael's College on Oct. 15 to drop the team to 4-4-5 overall and 1-3-4 in NE10 matches. The team hosts Adelphi on Wednesday, Oct. 19 before the battle with the Hawks on Oct. 22.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Sophomore Jonas Walter (Marburg, Germany) netted both goals for the Hawks in the win over the Yellow Jackets including the game-winning goal with 57 seconds left on the clock.
  • Senior Michael Fortin (Goffstown, N.H.), junior Ethan Northcott (Hollis, N.H.), and sophomore Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) registered one assist each at American International.
  • Senior Jackson Bukunt (Upton, Mass.) leads the Hawks with four goals and has one assist to bring his season point total to nine. Graduate student Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) is tied for the team lead with nine points coming from three goals and three assists.
  • Elliot's three assists are tied for the team lead with Fortin while his three tallies are tied with senior Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) for second most on the squad.
  • Senior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) has played every minute of each game in the goal for the Hawks this season. He has turned aside a league-high 83 shots on goal and owns a 0.776 save percentage and a 1.71 goals-against average. His save percentage is third-highest in the conference.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • Franklin Pierce has not allowed a goal in seven full matches. The team last allowed a goal in a 2-1 win against the College of Saint Rose on Sept. 17. In those seven contests, the Ravens have netted 25 goals.
  • The Ravens sit in the top spot of the conference standings with 22 points this season.
  • Braudilio Rodriguez leads the NE10 with 14 goals and 38 points while sitting in a tie with Jonas Cervera Anchel for the conference lead with 10 helpers.
  • Younes Addar is second on the team with eight goals while Marc Lopez has added six tallies as the team has outscored opponents by a 51-3 margin.
  • Kosta Maniatis has started in 12 of 15 games for the Ravens. He has made 15 saves on 18 shots on goal, good for a 0.833 save percentage and a 0.26 goals-against average, both of which lead the conference.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
  • The Dolphins enter play on Wednesday with seven points in the NE10 standings which is good for 10th. However, the team has three games left to close out the regular season.
  • On the season, Le Moyne has outscored its opponents by a 16-15 edge but has netted nine goals and allowed 11 in conference play.
  • Cameron Stuart leads the Le Moyne offense with four goals, four assists, and 12 points. He is credited with two game winning goals.
  • Max Buesch and Alessandro Otte are tied for second on the team with three goals apiece. Buesch ranks second in points, adding one assist to his goal total for seven points.
  • Josh Mahr owns a 1.09 goals-against average and 0.684 save percentage in 11 starts this season. He has a 3-3-5 record with three shutouts.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE, LE MOYNE
  • The Hawks and Ravens will be meeting for the 43rd time in the men's soccer all-time series. Franklin Pierce owns a 27-13-2 record against Saint Anselm.
  • Franklin Pierce has won 11 of the last 12 meetings over Saint Anselm including earlier this season in a non-conference battle on Oct. 4. The Ravens posted a 4-0 win in that match.
  • Saint Anselm and Le Moyne will battle for the 28th time in men's soccer on Saturday. The Dolphins are 16-9-2 in the all-time series.
  • Le Moyne posted a 1-0 victory from Melucci Field on Oct. 19, 2021, marking the last meeting between the two squads.
