MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team recorded a 2-0 loss to No. 19-ranked Adelphi University on Saturday at Melucci Field.
Saint Anselm drops to 7-6-1 overall on the season while falling to 3-6-1 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. No. 19-ranked Adelphi moves to 9-3-1 on the year and owns a league record of 7-1-1 after the victory.
After a scoreless first half, Adelphi broke the deadlock in the game's 55th minute as Maria D'Angelo hauled in a right-to-left cross from Carly Issing and forcefully fired it home. D'Angelo scored her team's second goal at 80:55, twisting around in the goal mouth and heading it home.
Saint Anselm had a great chance to put her team ahead just before halftime, but a defender cleared the line to record a team save. The Hawks nearly had an early 1-0 lead even before that goal-line stop as senior Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.), making her season debut, was stopped on a partial breakaway by the crashing Adelphi keeper.
Hawks netminder Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) kept her team in the game, stopping seven of nine shots she faced – four of those saves were in the scoreless first half.
Krista Aliscio made four saves, recording the shutout for Adelphi. The Panthers held the slight edge in shots attempted, 15-to-11, and placed nine of those attempts on frame.
Seniors Macaluso, Foley, Megan Nguyen (Dudley, Mass.), and Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) were recognized with a pre-game ceremony as part of Senior Day.
Saint Anselm heads to Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 for a 6 p.m. game against the Penmen.
