PREVIEW: Women's soccer meets NE10 foes Assumption, No. 19 Adelphi

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team battles Assumption University and Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Hawks will head to Worcester, Mass. for a 7 p.m. opening kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 12 against the Greyhounds before hosting the Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 15 for Senior Day.

The Hawks fell to American International College by a 2-1 score on Oct. 8, moving to 6-5-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in conference matches. After hosting the Panthers, the Hawks will make a quick road trip to crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 before concluding the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 against Southern Connecticut State.

The Greyhounds netted a 2-1 win over the University of New Haven on Oct. 8, improving to 4-3-3 overall and 3-3-1 in NE10 play. Assumption is unbeaten in each of its last three matches. Following Wednesday's match with the Hawks, Assumption will head to Pace University on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Adelphi, who is currently ranked No. 19 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches (USC) national poll, downed Bentley University by a 2-0 score on Oct. 7. They are now unbeaten in their last seven contests to move to 8-2-1 on the season and 6-0-1 in conference play. The Panthers host Franklin Pierce University who is receiving votes in the national poll on Wednesday before coming to the Hilltop.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Prior to the start of Saturday's match against Adelphi, the Hawks will honor seniors Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.), Megan Nguyen (Dudley, Mass.), Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.), and Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) with a pre-match Senior Day ceremony.
  • Sophomore Riley DiGilio (Danvers, Mass.) made her season debut against the Yellow Jackets and netted the Hawks goal in the 12th minute of that match, marking the second of her collegiate career and first of the season.
  • Junior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) collected assists on the goal and are tied for the team lead with four each. Pecor has a team high four goals and leads the squad with 12 points while Gotobed follows closely with three goals and 10 points, respectively.
  • Saint Anselm has netted 20 goals this season while allowing 17. The Hawks are tied for fourth in the conference in goals scored overall and are tied for fifth in the NE10 in goals scored in conference matches (9).
  • Freshman Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) has started in all 12 matches for Saint Anselm. She has a 1.35 goals-against average and a 0.771 save percentage with a total of 54 saves in her freshman campaign. Her 54 stops rank fourth in the NE10.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
  • Kate Carleson leads the Greyhounds with five goals and has added two assists for 12 points on the season. She is credited with four game-winning goals.
  • Haley Brown and Haleigh Ward are tied for second on the squad with seven points each. Brown has two goals and a team-high three assists while Ward ranks second on the team with three goals and one assist.
  • The Greyhounds have been outscored by a 19-16 margin this season including a 13-9 deficit in goals scored in conference matches.
  • Julia Walsh has started all 11 games for the Greyhounds in 2022. She has a 1.75 goals-against average and 0.707 save percentage. She has a 4-3-2 record and has faced a total of 150 shots this season, making 41 total saves.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
  • Adelphi is ranked No. 19 in the most recent USC national poll and are No. 3 in the East Region poll.
  • Madison Apicella is tied for the conference lead with six goals while leading in assists with seven and in points with 19. Victoria Colatosti ranks second on the Panthers with five goals and 10 points.
  • Alexa Mihale and Ashley Borriello are tied for second on the team with three assists each.
  • Adelphi has scored a league-high 29 goals while allowing just eight goals, marking a plus-21 goal differential. They are averaging a league-best 2.64 goals score per match while allowing just 0.73 goal per match, which is fourth-lowest.
  • Krista Aliscio has started all 11 games for the Panthers and owns a 0.83 goals-against average and a 0.714 save percentage, having allowed just eight goals and made a total of 20 saves.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION, ADELPHI
  • The Hawks and Greyhounds will be meeting for the 37th time in the all-time series with Assumption holding a 20-14-2 record against Saint Anselm in women's soccer.
  • Assumption and Saint Anselm battled twice last season, once in a non-conference match and the other in conference play. The Hawks grabbed an overtime win by a 2-1 on Sept. 8, 2021 before falling on Oct. 2, 2021 by a 1-0 score with both contests coming from Melucci Field. Sophomore Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) and Gotobed netted goals in the overtime win.
  • Saint Anselm and Adelphi are battling for the 18th time on Saturday. The Panthers are 13-3-1 all-time against the Hawks.
  • The Hawks snapped an 11-match winless streak against the Panthers on Sept. 18, 2021 with an overtime 1-0 win. Junior Delaney Glode (Kennebunkport, Maine) netted the game-winning tally in that match.
