WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) scored each of her team's goals on Wednesday, helping the No. 10-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team to a 2-1 road victory against Bentley University.
Saint Anselm improves to 5-4 overall on the season and to 4-1 against Northeast-10 Conference programs. Bentley, an NCAA postseason team last year, drops to 5-6 overall and to 3-3 versus the league.
After a scoreless opening stanza, Lewandowski scored her first of the game in the 19th minute of play. She reached a single-game personal best with her second goal less than five minutes later, collecting an entry pass from senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) to put her team ahead, 2-0.
Bentley struck in the fourth quarter, trimming the Saint Anselm lead to 2-1 off a penalty corner.
Junior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) made two early saves only four minutes into the contest, setting the tone for the Hawks. She finished the game with three saves on four shots, earning the victory.
Erin McGuinness, the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, was pulled at halftime after allowing two goals on three shots. Mia Trottie turned away all six shots on goal that she faced in relief.
Saint Anselm heads to Saint Thomas Aquinas this Saturday, Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
