PREVIEW: Women's tennis to take on American Int'l, Emerson and Salem State

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team returns to action Friday, Oct. 1 for a 4 p.m. match against American International at the Derryfield School. The Hawks then take on a pair of NCAA Division III opponents on Sunday, including Emerson and Salem State.

Saint Anselm owns a 1-6 record on the year with its only win coming against NCAA Division III Plymouth State. American International remains in search of its first victory of the 2021-22 season, having lost all six of its matches to date.

American International has won just three games on the year, falling to Stonehill by a 6-1 margin before most recently dropping a 5-2 decision versus Assumption on Wednesday.

As of Thursday, Salem State has compiled a 1-6 overall record with its lone win of the year coming against Western Connecticut State on Saturday, Sept. 25. The team's top singles player, Anastasia Startseva, is a dominant 7-0 at No. 1 while Alexandria Floyd has a 3-4 mark at No. 2 singles.

Emerson owns a 1-1 record, defeating Colby-Sawyer by a narrow 5-4 margin before losing to Nichols, 8-1. Ava Mirisola is the only student-athlete for Emerson to be undefeated in singles play on the season.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Against Le Moyne on Sunday, the team's top doubles tandem of senior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) battled the Dolphins on a windy afternoon to a 7-5 defeat. The Hawks other doubles teams were each downed by scores of 6-0.
  • During singles play, the Hawks were stymied and did not win at any flight. Freshman Elle Doucette (Newburyport, Mass.) posted the best showing for Saint Anselm, playing a hard fought, back and forth match before losing 6-4, 6-1.
  • Freshman Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) has a winning record in singles play, logging a 2-1 mark at No. 6 singles in limited action.

ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, SALEM STATE, EMERSON

  • The Hawks lead the all-time series versus American International by a 34-1 margin, losing only on Apr. 15, 2014 by a narrow 5-4 margin.
  • Saint Anselm has never competed against Salem State and Emerson.
