PREVIEW: Women's soccer looks to extend unbeaten streak against Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's soccer team puts its four-match unbeaten streak on the line as it heads to Saint Michael's College for a Northeast-10 Conference match on Wednesday afternoon. The opening kick is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Hawks were held scoreless for the first time all season in the scoreless draw against Le Moyne on Saturday. Saint Anselm outshot the Dolphins by a 21-1 margin and held a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal. Competing in four overtime matches so far this season, Wednesday's road contest will be the last in the month of September with the Hawks returning home to host Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Saint Michael's enters with a 4-3-1 overall record and is 2-2-1 in conference play. The Purple Knights dropped their last match by a 1-0 score to New Haven. Dating back to Saturday, Sept. 18, Saint Michael's is 1-1-1.

Fans attending the match at Duffy Field are expected to familiarize themselves with Saint Michael's Spectator Policy.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • With the tie against Le Moyne on Saturday, Saint Anselm's three-match win streak was snapped but a four-match unbeaten streak still remains. Versus the Dolphins, freshman Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) led all student-athletes with six shots, three on goal. Saint Anselm registered eight shots in the first half, seven in the second, and five in the second overtime period.
  • Hawks junior goalkeeper Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) faced one shot in the tie for her second career shutout. Junior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) and Grace Foley (Middleton, Mass.) had three shots with one on goal each.
  • Sophomore Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) is the Hawks leading goal scorer with three, which puts her in a tie for sixth in the conference. She is tied for eighth in the NE10 in points with seven.
  • Freshman Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.) ranks second on the team in goals (two) and points (six) while leading the Hawks in helpers with two. Foley joins Wnek with two goals for the Hawks offense. Senior Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.) is tied for the NE10 lead in assists with three.
  • Macaluso holds the league's eighth-lowest goals against average of 0.79. She has logged a 4-1-1 record for the Hawks across six games so far. She has started all six matches and registered over 570 minutes in goal.
  • Saint Anselm has played in overtime in four of its six matches this season. They are 2-1-1 in overtime games to date.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • The Purple Knights opened the season with wins over Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday, Sept. 2 and Dominican on Wednesday, Sept. 8, which sandwiched a loss to Caldwell on Sunday.
  • The team opened NE10 play on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Pace. The Purple Knights benefited from an own goal, giving them the 1-0 win.
  • Paulina Valentine led the team in shots in the loss to New Haven with three shots and two on goal. Izzy Ruprecht is the team leader in goals (two) and points (four). Elani Gikas has the lone assist for the Purple Knights this season.
  • Katie Escobedo is 3-3-1 this season, drawing seven starts. She has compiled 29 saves on 35 shots on goal, boasting a .829 save percentage that ranks eighth-best in the NE10. Jenna Braun posted a three-save shutout in her collegiate debut against American International.
  • The Purple Knights have played six matches this season that ended with a 1-0 score. They are 4-2 in those matches and have had seven one-goal contests to date.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • The Hawks are unbeaten against the Purple Knights in the last 12 meetings. The stretch started on Sept. 28, 2011 which was a scoreless tie. Most recently, the programs met on Oct. 2, 2019 and that match finished in a 1-1 tie. The Hawks are 8-0-4 since the start of the unbeaten streak.
  • The first meeting all-time came in Saint Anselm's fifth-ever match in team history. The Purple Knights grabbed a 3-1 win in the Oct. 6, 1984 matchup.
  • The Hawks are 23-8-7 all-time against the Purple Knights.
