Women's tennis narrowly defeated by Division I Holy Cross, 4-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Competing against an NCAA Division I opponent on Saturday, the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team narrowly lost a 4-3 decision to the College of the Holy Cross.

The Hawks fall to 1-4 following the match while Holy Cross moves to 2-0, downing NCAA Division III Mount Holyoke before the team's 4-3 win against Saint Anselm. The Hawks return to Division II play on Sunday, Sept. 19, traveling to Assumption for a match at high noon.

Saint Anselm came away with a 1-0 lead after doubles play. Freshmen Bridget Hughes (Rockland, Mass.) and Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) picked up a nice 6-2 victory before junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) battled to a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles, locking down the doubles point.

Freshman Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) and classmate Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) earned the lone points for Saint Anselm in singles competition. Svor logged a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles before Casaletto delivered a 7-6, 6-4 result at No. 6 singles. Svor and Casaletto have now won two consecutive singles matches heading into play on Sunday.
