With a completely new look to the roster that includes the addition of six freshmen, Saint Anselm will attempt to improve upon its 2-9 record during the 2020-21 campaign. The Hawks own an 0-2 record to date, but have played arguably the top two teams in the East Region – Franklin Pierce is the reigning East Region title-holder with Stonehill finishing the year as the runner-up.

New Haven was projected to finish sixth in the conference, according to the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll released prior to the season. The Chargers sprinted out to an 8-6 record during the 2019-20 season and most recently posted a 5-8 record during the 2020-21 academic year.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Taking on the 2021 NCAA Division II East Region Champions in women's tennis last time out, Saint Anselm was toppled by Franklin Pierce University by a 7-0 score on Wednesday.
  • The Hawks took just two games in doubles play as Franklin Pierce easily moved ahead by a 1-0 margin. The Ravens continued to control the match in singles play with the closest battle of the day coming at No. 5 singles – Elle Doucette (Newburyport, Mass.) fell by a 6-3, 6-3 margin.
  • The Hawks roster features one of the largest recruiting classes in recent memory for the program. Saint Anselm also welcomes back all of its 2020-21 roster with the exception of seniors Dominique Bolduc '21 and Maikah Bulpitt '21.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) was named to the All-Rookie Team by the Northeast-10 Conference to conclude last season. Winner of NE10 Rookie of the Week honors on Apr. 20, she was the first All-Rookie team from Saint Anselm since Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the honor in 2018.
  • Jacy will co-captain the team alongside junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine). Across a three-year career on the Hilltop, Jacy has won 11 singles matches and has been a part of 10 doubles victories. Kapothanasis has eight singles and seven doubles wins to her credit.

PREVIEWING NEW HAVEN

  • Graduate student Ivana Andric, a native of Germany, earned NE10 Second Team All-Conference honors following the spring 2020 campaign. She finished 7-1 at the top singles flight.
  • New Haven also features two NE10 Third Team returners (Lilia Rodriguez, Alexa Orlando) and an All-Rookie selection in Abby Murphy.
  • Head Coach Hannah Fetters enters her fifth season with New Haven this season. She is tasked with leading the 12 members of the Chargers roster into the 2021-22 season.
  • The Chargers open their season against the Hawks on Sunday before hosting Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday.

ALL-TIME vs. NEW HAVEN

  • Saint Anselm holds the 7-5 edge in the all-time series against New Haven that dates back to Apr. 19, 2009.
  • The Hawks had won the first four matches, but since the start of the 2012-13 season, New Haven has won five out of eight showdowns with Saint Anselm.
