PREVIEW: Women's soccer to open NE10 play against No. 6 Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team is hosting the College of Saint Rose on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Melucci Field. The Golden Knights are the reigning Northeast-10 Conference champions, the top team in the East Region and ranked No. 6 nationally. The NE10 opener for Saint Anselm is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

The Hawks opened the season with a 2-1 double overtime win over Assumption on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) scored the first goal of the season and her first collegiate goal in the 33rd minute. Assumption tallied an equalizer in the 85th minute, which forced overtime. Sophomore Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) found free space in the second overtime and beat the attacking goalkeeper in the 106th minute to give the Hawks the season-opening win in dramatic fashion.

The Golden Knights are 2-0 on the young season. They hosted Caldwell on Friday, Sept. 3 and recorded a 3-0 victory before traveling west to No. 8 Jefferson. Saint Rose won the battle of top-10 teams by a 4-0 score. Kaelyn Britt scored twice and Jen Bartlett scored once in the season opener. In Sunday's matchup against Jefferson, the Golden Knights had four goal scorers and led 2-0 before the end of the sixth minute.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
  • The Hawks opened the season with a win for the first time since the 2017 season.
  • Rutherford and Gotobed scored their first career goals in the win over Assumption. They also lead the team in goals and points.
  • Joining in on the career firsts was freshman Riley Digilio (Danvers, Mass.). She tallied an assist on the Rutherford goal when she sent a service across the box for senior Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.). Digilio and Pratt have one assist each.
  • Junior Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) earned her first career win on Wednesday. She made one save on two shots on goal.
  • As a team, the Hawks fired 15 shots and allowed eight. Gotobed leads the team in shots with seven and in shots on goal with three.
  • Six players registered a shot for Saint Anselm.
  • That was just the second win in the last nine meetings with the Greyhounds that went in the Hawks favor.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
  • The No. 6 team nationally is ranked 11th in Division II, averaging 3.50 goals per game. They are eighth in assists per game (3.00), 15th in total assists (6), and 17th in total goals (7) and points (20).
  • As a team, the Golden Knights are one of 31 programs that have not allowed a goal.
  • Britt leads the team in goals with two and points with four. Janina Mueller has registered one goal and one assist for three points. Bartlett, Theresa Durle, Katlyn Krupski, Ciera Lundy, and Tatiana Leggiero have two points each.
  • Leggiero is the team-leader with two assists. Mueller, Olivia Boucher, Mia Klammer, and Paula Toledo all have one assist.
  • Marika Laurendeau is 2-0 on the young season. She has faced five shots, two on goal, registering two shutouts.
  • The Golden Knights have fired 38 shots while allowing just nine shots. 19 of their shots have been on goal.
  • The team is 1-2 on penalty kicks and boasts a plus-7 goal differential.
ALL-TIME VS. SAINT ROSE
  • The Golden Knights hold a 14-4-4 record against the Hawks in the all-time series.
  • The last meeting was a 1-1 tie on Sept. 14, 2019 in Albany, N.Y.
  • On Oct. 13, 2018, the Hawks earned a 2-1 win, marking the last win over Saint Rose in the series.
  • The first contest in the all-time series came on Sept. 9, 1995 which the Hawks won by a 5-0 score.
  • The Golden Knights hold the longest win streak, five games, which spanned the 2007 season to the 2011 season.
  • The Hawks have claimed victory in two of the last three meetings with both coming at Melucci Field. Oct. 14, 2014 and Oct. 13, 2018 were 2-0 and 2-1 wins for Saint Anselm. Sandwiched in the middle is a 3-0 loss on Oct. 18, 2016. In the 2014 meeting, the Golden Knights were ranked No. 1 nationally.
