Box Score HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Saint Michael's College on Tuesday.
Saint Anselm improves to 2-7 overall on the season with a matching record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Saint Michael's drops to 0-7 on the season. The Hawks conclude the regular season at Assumption on Wednesday.
The Hawks came out on the losing end of doubles play, falling behind 1-0 to start the match. Despite earning a win at No. 3 doubles via default, Saint Michael's earned a No. 1 doubles win by a 6-3 score and came away with a hard-fought victory at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Sandra Rich (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Katie Mahan (Bridgewater, Mass.) made their collegiate debuts for Saint Anselm at No. 2 doubles, forcing a tiebreaker that the Hawks led 6-4 at one point. Saint Michael's rallied from behind for their first match point of the season, winning the tiebreaker.
Saint Anselm would not drop a single match in singles play, securing a forfeit win at No. 6 singles and never looking back. Senior Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) eased her way to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles before junior Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) secured her first win of the season, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
Senior Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles before junior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) put her No. 1 singles counterpart away, 6-3, 6-0. In the longest singles bout of the afternoon, sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) battled her way to a 6-1, 6-4 result at No. 2 singles.
Bulpitt and Bolduc were honored and recognized for their outstanding careers in a post-game ceremony held in the Carr Activities Center. The co-captains have served as key members of the women's tennis program for the past four seasons.
