HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team will take on Saint Michael's College on Tuesday at the Southern New Hampshire University courts.
Saint Anselm enters the 4 p.m. match with a 1-7 overall record – the team's lone victory came on Friday, Apr. 16 against the Purple Knights in Vermont. The Purple Knights are 0-6 on the year and are in the midst of a nine-match losing streak.
The Hawks will also celebrate their two graduating senior student-athletes, Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) and Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.), following the match. The co-captains are four year members of the Saint Anselm women's tennis team.
Results will be posted upon completion of the match.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
Last time out against Southern New Hampshire, the Hawks fell by a 6-1 margin. The Penmen picked up 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, securing the first point of the match, but SNHU defaulted at No. 6 singles. With the match tied at one, Southern New Hampshire eased its way to wins at No. 1 through No. 5 singles.
Bolduc won two games, but fell to SNHU's Mina Houge by a 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 3 singles in what was the closest match of the afternoon for the Hawks.
The 7-0 win over Saint Michael's was the first shutout victory for Saint Anselm since Oct. 1, 2017, a 9-0 blanking of Franklin Pierce.
Versus the Purple Knights, the Hawks dropped just one game across No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play, securing the 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and Bolduc picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles win and the tandem of Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Bulpitt logged a 6-0 win at the top doubles flight.
Winning by default at No. 6 singles, Bulpitt followed at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Saint Michael's before Bolduc locked down a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to secure the overall win for Saint Anselm.
Jacy followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles before Kapothanasis battled her way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2, helping to lock down the win at Saint Michael's. Sophomore Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles, the first win of her collegiate career.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
The last victory for Saint Michael's came on Oct. 5, 2019 against American International, a 4-3 decision. Since then, the Purple Knights have dropped nine consecutive matches.
The Purple Knights are still without a win across 1-6 singles and 1-3 doubles, having been shutout in six matches so far. Saint Michael's has played Franklin Pierce twice, Southern New Hampshire twice and, most recently, Assumption. The team's last match against Bentley, scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 18, was postponed.
Saint Michael's is led by team captains Abby Edelmann and Elly McKenna. Edelmann came in to this season with a 5-8 career record in singles play and a 7-9 mark in doubles competition. McKenna was 8-4 in her career in doubles play. The team will not graduate a senior this season.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
Saint Michael's holds the all-time lead in the series, 23-13. Despite dropping 12 matches in a row from Apr. 7, 2005 through Sept. 24, 2014, the Hawks have won four of the last six bouts.
Prior to the first Saint Michael's match earlier this season, the Purple Knights locked down a 5-2 victory over the Hawks on Sept. 14, 2019.
