PREVIEW: Women's tennis at Southern New Hampshire

HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team will take on Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.

Saint Anselm logged a 7-0 victory over Saint Michael's on Friday, netting its first win of the 2021 campaign. Southern New Hampshire, ranked third in the most recent ITA East Region rankings, carries a 6-3 overall record into play on Sunday.

No spectators will be permitted to attend Sunday's match on the Southern New Hampshire campus.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • The Hawks cruised to a 7-0 victory over Saint Michael's on Friday in a match played indoors at the Tarrant Recreation Center.
  • The 7-0 win was the first shutout victory for Saint Anselm since Oct. 1, 2017, a 9-0 blanking of Franklin Pierce. Saint Michael's drops to 0-7 overall and against NE10 opponents in 2021.
  • The Hawks dropped just one game across No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play, securing the 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and senior Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles win and the tandem of Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) logged a 6-0 win at the top doubles flight.
  • Winning by default at No. 6 singles, Bulpitt followed at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory before Bolduc locked down a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to secure the overall win for Saint Anselm.
  • Jacy followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles before Kapothanasis battled her way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Sophomore Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles, the first win of her collegiate career.

PREVIEWING THE PENMEN

  • Southern New Hampshire posted a 4-1 loss to Franklin Pierce on Wednesday, the first road loss of the year for the Penmen. The Ravens are slotted eighth in the ITA East Region rankings.
  • The Penmen had won three of their prior four matches before the loss to Franklin Pierce.
  • Magdalena Hubickova and Alexxa Etienne are 7-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Five of the six singles student-athletes for the Penmen have lost no more than one of their contests this season.

ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • After winning the first four matches in the all-time series against the Penmen, Southern New Hampshire has won its last 18 matches over Saint Anselm.
