Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 14 men's lacrosse moves to 8-0, defeating Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm College extended its program-record winning streak to 11 games on Saturday as the Hawks men's lacrosse team, ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, picked up a 15-6 win over Franklin Pierce University at Grappone Stadium.

Saint Anselm moves to 8-0 on the year and to 8-0 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Franklin Pierce, who entered with a three-game winning streak, falls to 3-5 overall on the season and to 3-5 against league opponents.

The Hawks remain one of two undefeated teams in Northeast-10 play as Le Moyne, the top ranked team in NCAA Division II, edged Bentley in overtime, 11-10, Saturday afternoon. Saint Anselm is one of just four programs in the nation without a defeat.

Saint Anselm sports teams, including field hockey, football, women's soccer, women's lacrosse and men's lacrosse, improved to 19-0-1 at Grappone Stadium since a non-league field hockey loss on Oct. 6, 2019.

Senior Griffin Shoemaker (Shirley, Mass.) posted three goals and an assist for four points (3-1=4), matching the point production of freshman Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) and his one goal off three assists.

Sophomore Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) logged three goals and two assists for a team-best five points (3-2=5) and classmate Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) won 15-of-25 face-offs, collecting 14 ground balls on the day.

Saint Anselm opened up a 3-0 lead with 6:58 to go in the first quarter as senior Ryan Richards (Mendon, Mass.), classmate Thomas Mapstone (Andover, Mass.) and Noah Larsen each found the back of the net. Franklin Pierce cut the Hawks lead to 4-2 shortly into the second quarter, but the hosts eased into halftime with a 7-2 lead.

Robinson's man-up goal with 3:49 to go in the first half concluded the first half of scoring for the Hawks, who were outshot by Franklin Pierce, 25-to-21. Saint Anselm won the ground ball battle, picking up 21 of the 33 first-half loose balls.

Franklin Pierce kept the game close in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks by a 3-to-2 margin and cutting the Saint Anselm lead to 9-5. The Hawks poured home four consecutive goals to start the fourth quarter and never looked back, growing the lead to 15-6 with just under three minutes left in regulation time.

Senior CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) was forced to make a season-high 15 saves on the day for the Hawks, improving to 8-0 on the season. James Heitmiller made 13 saves for the Ravens, but conceded 15 goals on the day to draw the loss.

The Ravens were led by a three-goal performance by Patrick Mulhern.
