PREVIEW: Women's tennis at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team is in action on Friday, traveling to the Green Mountain State for a 3 p.m. tilt with the Purple Knights.

Saint Anselm enters the match with a 0-6 overall record while Saint Michael's remains without a victory in five matches. The contests will be played indoors at the Tarrant Recreation Center.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Last time out, the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team was blanked by regionally-ranked Stonehill College, 4-0. The Skyhawks were the eighth-ranked team in the Oracle/ITA Division II regional rankings.
  • The Skyhawks picked up the doubles point with 6-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Stonehill also picked up quick victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, posting 6-0, 6-0 wins, before the Skyhawks locked down a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles to clinch the match.
  • Senior Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) have the Hawks lone singles victories on the season. Kapothanasis has also partnered with junior Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) for the team's only doubles win of 2021, a No. 3 victory that was claimed against Bentley on Mar. 25.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • The last victory for Saint Michael's came on Oct. 5, 2019 against American International, a 4-3 decision. Since then, the Purple Knights have dropped eight consecutive matches – the Hawks have also lost eight straight in that span.
  • The Purple Knights are still without a win across 1-6 singles and 1-3 doubles, having been shutout in five matches so far. Saint Michael's has played Franklin Pierce twice, Southern New Hampshire twice and, most recently, Assumption.
  • Saint Michael's is led by team captains Abby Edelmann and Elly McKenna. Edelmann came in to this season with a 5-8 career record in singles play and a 7-9 mark in doubles competition. McKenna was 8-4 in her career in doubles play. The team will not graduate a senior this season.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • Saint Michael's holds the all-time lead in the series, 23-12. Despite dropping 12 matches in a row from Apr. 7, 2005 through Sept. 24, 2014, the Hawks have won three of the last five bouts.
  • Last time out, Saint Michael's locked down a 5-2 victory over the Hawks on Sept. 14, 2019. Kaitlin Hughes '20 partnered with then-sophomore Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) for a convincing 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles. Kapothanasis moved to 4-1 in singles play with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles
