PREVIEW: Women's tennis at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team returns to action after a lengthy hiatus to take on regionally-ranked Stonehill College on Sunday, Apr. 11 at high noon.

The Hawks carry an 0-5 record into play while the Skyhawks, ranked No. 8 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region rankings, will take the court with a 4-2 overall record.

Spectators outside of Stonehill students will not be permitted to attend any sporting events at the College. A live video feed, alongside live stats, will be provided by the Stonehill athletics department.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • The Hawks are in search of their first victory of the 2021 season and their first win of any kind since a 5-2 victory over American International on Oct. 6, 2019.
  • Last time out, the Hawks were blanked by Southern New Hampshire University at the Allard Center on Apr. 1. Southern New Hampshire won doubles play with a 6-0 win at No. 1 before easing its way past the No. 2 doubles tandem from Saint Anselm. The Penmen came away with the victory after dropping just three games across all four singles bouts.
  • Senior Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) have the Hawks lone singles victories on the season. Kapothanasis has also partnered with junior Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) for the team's only doubles win of 2021, a No. 3 victory that was claimed against Bentley on Mar. 25.
PREVIEWING STONEHILL
  • Stonehill has won its last two matches, blanking Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday and, most recently, defeating Bentley on the road Friday.
  • The Skyhawks have dropped just seven singles matches on the season and own a 6-4 record across No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights enjoy a 9-3 record that includes the No. 3 doubles tandems combining to go 5-1 on the year.
  • Cristina Solorzano Valencia is ranked No. 6 in the Oracle/ITA Division II East Region singles rankings and Emma Markaryan owns a career 22-2 record in in NE10 singles matches entering play on Sunday.
ALL-TIME vs. STONEHILL
  • Stonehill leads the all-time series against Saint Anselm with a 33-11 record. The Skyhawks have won each of the last 15 matches, winning by a combined score of 112-11.
  • The Skyhawks are the reigning NE10 Regular Season and Tournament Champions, opening up a 12-3 overall record alongside a 9-1 mark in the Fall 2019 season.
  • Stonehill has qualified for the last four NCAA Division II postseasons.
