Saint Anselm picked up a 75-57 victory over Bloomfield at home on Saturday, rebounding from a narrow 71-70 loss to Stonehill on Sunday, Dec. 5. The Hawks will return home on Monday to take on Post at 1 p.m. in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Jefferson enters the game with a 6-2 record, but has not played a game since Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Goldey-Beacom. The team's game at Pace on Saturday, Dec. 11 was postponed to Thursday, Jan. 13. The squad does come into play having won five of its last six games since a 77-76 win at Kutztown on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Spectators are welcome to attend Saturday's game, but are reminded that all in attendance must be masked regardless of vaccination status. Social distancing is also expected at the site of competition.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Senior Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) reached 1,000 career points in last Saturday's 75-57 victory over Bloomfield. He finished with 16 points and four rebounds for Saint Anselm, becoming the 54th student-athlete in the College's men's basketball history to reach 1,000 points in a career.
  • In 99 games on the Hilltop, Suhr-Jessen has averaged 10.1 points per game and now has 1,003 points entering play on Saturday. This season, he has posted 10.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, producing 13 assists, five steals and three blocks in his team's seven games played.
  • Senior Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) scored a game-high 25 points for Saint Anselm against Bloomfield, pulling down seven rebounds as well. He has now reached at least 25 points in three games this season and has finished with no fewer than 14 points in six tilts.
  • Paul is one of just six active NCAA Division II student-athletes with at least 1,500 career points and 600 rebounds and only the second student-athlete in the East Region to have achieved that milestone (Andrew Sischo, Daemen).
  • Across seven games so far, Saint Anselm has been whistled for just 101 fouls, ranking seventh in NCAA Division II, and has committed only 83 turnovers in that span to rank 11th in the country. The team is called for just 14.4 fouls per game, on average.
  • Head Coach Keith Dickson, in his 36th year at Saint Anselm, has coached the Hawks to 668 victories since the 1986-87 campaign. He is one of just nine coaches to have been behind the bench for at least 35 seasons.

RAMS REVIEW

  • Jefferson has won six of its first eight games after not competing during the 2020-21 season, just like Saint Anselm. The Rams racked up a 27-4 record in the 2019-20 season and were set to compete in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship at Bridgeport, alongside Saint Anselm.
  • The Rams fell to Dominican (N.Y.) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference by a 75-63 score on Sunday, Mar. 8 but secured a convincing 100-61 win over Wilmington (Del.) in the CACC Semifinals just the day before.
  • Jefferson has turned the ball over just 11.0 times per game, on average, to rank first in the CACC and 39th in the country. Like Saint Anselm, the Rams do not commit many fouls or turn the ball over – the team has just 88 turnovers across eight games, 17th in NCAA Division II, and rank 47th in the land with only 127 total fouls.
  • Darius Kinnel is the NCAA Division II leader in minutes played per game (39:37) and his teammates, Deondre Bourne (37:44) and Erik Timko (37:33) join him in the top 10 in the nation. Antonin Kemkeng is fourth in the division with 11.5 rebounds per game and has four double-doubles, ranking second in the CACC in that metric.
  • Timko is the reigning CACC Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, matching a career-high with 34 points last time out against Goldey-Beacom. He was 10-for-10 from the charity stripe and finished with an 11-for-18 performance from the floor.
  • Jefferson is led by Herb Magee, the longest-tenured Head Coach at any NCAA Division I, II or III institution, all-time. He is in his 55th season and owns an overall record of 1,129-446 (.717) since joining the Rams in 1967. He trails only Mike Krzyzewski for the all-time NCAA lead with 1,179 wins in 47 seasons between stints at Army and Duke.

ALL-TIME vs. JEFFERSON

  • Formerly known as Philadelphia Textile and Philadelphia University, Jefferson leads the all-time series against the Rams by a 6-4 margin since the first meeting on Feb. 9, 1965.
  • Magee was an assistant coach at the time of those first two meetings on Feb. 9, 1965 and Feb. 25, 1966.
  • Saint Anselm has won each of the last four games played, including an 83-71 win against the Rams on Mar. 12, 2016 in the First Round of the 2016 NCAA Division II East Region Championship.
  • Four of the 10 all-time games played in the series came in NCAA postseason play. The Rams are 3-1 against the Hawks in the NCAA Championship.
