Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's ice hockey ties Sacred Heart, 1-1

SHELTON, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team played to a 1-1 tie on Friday at the Sports Center of Connecticut.

The Hawks see their record stand at 2-6-1 overall while moving to 1-1-1 against New England Women's Hockey Alliance opponents. Sacred Heart caps the day with a 4-5-1 overall record alongside a 2-2-1 mark versus league foes.

Saint Anselm held the advantage in shots taken (47-to-38), but generated just one goal past Sacred Heart netminder Frankie Sanchez. Hawks backstop Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) was also up to the task, making 20 saves, but conceded a third period, game-tying goal to the Pioneers.

Sophomore Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) lit the lamp for the second consecutive game, putting Saint Anselm on the board just 8:31 into the game. Sophomore Claire Weber (Marshfield, Mass.) applied heavy pressure to Sacred Heart, who was trying to clear its defensive zone. Forcing the miscue, she stole the puck and carried it below the goal line where she fed a crashing McCaffrey for the tally.

Cannady Taleghani's third-period marker tied the game at one with exactly 9:01 to go. Crashing the right post, she flipped a puck on net that appeared to be stopped by Saint Anselm. The officials were unable to locate the puck initially, and after a lengthy on-ice discussion, a goal was awarded to Sacred Heart that tied the game.

Saint Anselm returns to action Saturday, Nov. 6, taking on Sacred Heart once again at the Sports Center of Connecticut. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
