HANOVER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team fell by a 2-1 score to Dartmouth College in Saturday's non-conference contest.
The Hawks fall to 4-10-1 on the season while the Big Green improve to 4-5-0. The teams are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 27 in the second game of the weekend home-and-home series. The opening puck drop from Sullivan Arena is slated for 4 p.m.
Freshman
Madi Ressler (Brighton, Mich.) netted her first collegiate goal in the contest while junior
Gabrielle Huson (Edina, Minn.) and freshman
Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) recorded assists on the third period power-play goal.
The teams traded opportunities throughout the first period but neither team cracked the score sheet as the Big Green held a 13-10 edge in shots on goal.
With just one minute remaining in the second period, Dartmouth found the contest's first goal as
Annie King fired a snap shot from the top of the slot into the right side of the net, beating junior goaltender
Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.). Kelley managed to hold the Big Green off the score board for 39 minutes of play, making 28 saves prior to the game's opening goal.
Saint Anselm had a great chance to tie the game at 3:18 of the final stanza as sophomore
Claire Weber (Marshfield, Mass.) won the race to a loose puck in the attacking end. She wired a pass to the slot where Huson was crashing the net, but her redirected shot was saved by Dartmouth's goaltender,
Maggie Emerson.
The Big Green doubled their lead less than a minute after the strong scoring chance for the Hawks as
Sydney Herrington roofed a carom off the end board, sneaking it by Kelley over her left shoulder.
Saint Anselm cut the deficit to one at 12:25 of the third period as Ressler collected a pass at the top of the slot from Huson and wristed home her first collegiate goal, just inside the right post to push the score to 2-1.
Senior
Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) managed to fire a shot that rang off the crossbar with just under two minutes remaining, marking the last strong scoring chance for the Hawks.
The Big Green fired 36 shots on goal compared to 23 for the Hawks. Saint Anselm connected once on four power play opportunities while Dartmouth was scoreless on its three chances.
Kelley made 34 saves in goal for the Hawks while Emerson finished with 21 saves.
