RINDGE, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team posted a 92-68 loss on Saturday against Franklin Pierce University.
The Hawks fall to 0-2 on the year while Franklin Pierce sees its overall record evened at 2-2. Saint Anselm also falls to 0-2 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents while the Ravens move to 1-0, playing its first league game on Saturday.
Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) led Saint Anselm with 15 points. Senior Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) picked up his first double-double of the season, posting 14 points with 11 rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, senior Alonzo Jackson (Medford, Mass.) was five-for-five from the floor and made both free throws for 12 points in 20 minutes.
Franklin Pierce rarely missed in the first 10 minutes of the game, establishing a 27-9 lead after shooting 10-for-19 with seven of the team's first 11 shots beyond the arc finding the bottom of the net. The Hawks had a tough start on offense, making only three of the team's first 17 shots and missing three of their first six free throws.
The Ravens kept going from there, using a 18-6 scoring run across a 4:30 minute span with 8:24 left in the opening half. Franklin Pierce put home seven of eight shots from the floor and did not miss on a single three-point basket (four) to establish a 45-18 lead.
Down by a 55-29 score at the break, Franklin Pierce built a game-high lead of 60-29 just 1:15 into the half and cruised to the victory. For the second consecutive game, Saint Anselm outscored its opponent in the second half, but the early first-half lead for the Ravens stood up as the game clock expired.
Isaiah Moore was 15-for-25 from the floor, scoring 35 points and assisting a team-leading 11 baskets for the Ravens. Maxwell Zegarowski had 12 points and Mohamed Traore scoed 11 points. Antonio Chandler had a team-best total of nine rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
Saint Anselm welcomes Southern New Hampshire to the Hilltop on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. for an NE10 game.
