The Hawks dropped their last contest to Southern New Hampshire on Oct. 27 by a 2-0 score. With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 6-9 on the season with a 3-8 record in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Greyhounds recorded a 4-1 win over Bentley on Oct. 30 to push themselves into a tie with Saint Anselm. They are 3-11-1 overall and 3-8 in conference matches.
The Hawks and Greyhounds are currently tied for 10th in the NE10 standings but a NE10 Playoff berth is still available for both squads. If either program was to qualify, its quarterfinal matchup would be on Saturday, Nov. 6 with an opponent, location, and time still to be determined.
Fans attending the match at Brian Kelly Stadium are expected to familiarize themselves with the Assumption
spectator registration policy.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- After posting a 4-0 victory over Stonehill on Sept. 22, improving to 4-1 at the time, the Hawks are 2-8 since which puts them at 6-9 with a 3-8 record in league play. Saint Anselm has found the back of the net four times since posting four goals against Stonehill.
- Saint Anselm is tied for 10th in the NE10 standings to date and need help to secure a spot in the NE10 playoffs as they hold the tiebreaker of head-to-head over both Southern Connecticut and Stonehill, who are just ahead of the Hawks in the standings.
- Senior Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) leads the team in scoring with five goals and five assists for 15 points. Junior Josue Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) is second on the team with four goals and two assists for 10 points.
- Six student-athletes have one goal with five of them recording their first career-goals this season. Saint Anselm has netted 15 goals on the year, averaging one per game. Four student-athletes have one assist and for three of those student-athletes, that is their first career point.
- Junior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) has played every minute in goal for the Hawks. He has a 1.33 goals-against average and a 0.765 save percentage through 15 games this season. Underhill has stopped 65 shots on goal which ranks third in the NE10.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
- The Greyhounds are winners in two of their last three matches after snapping an eight-match losing streak. Assumption has posted wins over Southern Connecticut State and Bentley by 3-2 and 4-1 scores.
- The win over Bentley pushed the Greyhounds into the tie for 10th in the conference standings with Saint Anselm. They also own the head-to-head tie breaker over Southern Connecticut and Stonehill.
- Kevin Hernandez leads the team with 10 goals which is tied for third in the NE10. Vanilton Xavier is second on the squad with four tallies while Ruben Faria is third with two.
- Vegard Pernes has three helpers on the season for the team lead while Hernandez is second with two assists. Four student-athletes have one assist each.
- Francisco Teixeira has started 10 games in goal for the Greyhounds. He is 2-6-1 on the season with a 2.71 goals-against average and a 0.667-save percentage. George Dixon IV has four starts and holds a goals-against average of 3.80 and a save percentage of 0.610.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
- This will be the 58th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Greyhounds. Saint Anselm is 37-17-3 in the series.
- The last meeting came in the Hawks season finale on Nov. 6, 2019, resulting in a 3-2 win for Saint Anselm. That snapped a three-game winning streak for Assumption.
- From the first meeting on Nov. 4, 1967 until the turn of the century, Saint Anselm was 24-8-2 against Assumption, which included a 13-match win streak, the longest the series has seen from Sept. 19, 1987 to Oct. 14, 2000.
