PREVIEW: Women's ice hockey travels to No. 8 Quinnipiac

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team is set to battle with nation's eighth-ranked team, Quinnipiac, on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9.

Saint Anselm posted its first non-league victory over a Division I opponent on Saturday by downing Maine, 3-2. The Hawks scored twice in the first period, using a goal just 22 seconds into play as senior Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) put home the first of two opening stanza strikes. She later added an assist on the game winner by Devin Porazinski (Parker, Colo.).

Defensively, junior goaltender Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) stopped 52 of 54 shots on goal in her first contest as a Hawks student-athlete. After the pair of games against Quinnipiac, the Hawks host No. 5 Northeastern in the first contest in Sullivan Arena since the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) Championship game on Feb. 23, 2020.

Quinnipiac is 4-0 to start the season after taking a pair from both Maine and Long Island University. In the two contests against the Sharks, the Bobcats held a 13-1 scoring advantage and posted a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. Quinnipiac plays a home-and-home series with Providence before opening ECAC play against Brown on Friday, Oct. 29.

Fans attending the games at the Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena are expected to familiarize themselves with the Quinnipiac spectator policy.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Golini was named the NEWHA Player of the Week following her two-goal performance against Maine. The Hawks were heavily represented on the weekly NEWHA awards as Kelley collected the Goaltender of the Week accolade.
  • Porazinski tallied the game-winner on Saturday on the power play. Golini and senior Erin Meyers (Saint Paul, Minn.) registered assists on the goal. Meyers was credited with an assist on each goal against Maine and leads the team with three.
  • Kelley set a Saint Anselm women's ice hockey program record for saves in a single game with 52. The junior is a transfer from Quinnipiac and boasts a .963 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.00 to date.
  • Aiding the Hawks defensive efforts, junior Gabrielle Huson (Edina, Minn.) posted four blocked shots while senior Kendra Currier (Middleton, Mass.) and sophomore Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) registered three each. Saint Anselm blocked a total of 18 shots in the season opener.
  • The Hawks are 1-for-4 on power plays for a 25% conversion rate. They allowed seven extra-player opportunities against Maine and did not allow a goal in those situations. Saint Anselm was 24-45 at the face-off dots.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
  • The Bobcats posted a pair of wins over Maine by 3-2 and 5-1 scores before downing LIU by 9-1 and 4-0 decisions. Olivia Mobley netted a hat trick in the first game against LIU and totaled four goals against the Sharks. Alexa Hoskin and Lexie Adzija posted two goals each in last weekend's pair of contests.
  • Hoskin and Mobley are tied for the team lead with four goals each. Sadie Peart has three markers. As a team, 11 players have found the twine for a total of 21 goals through their first four games.
  • Jess Schryver has six assists on the year to the lead the team while Peart has five helpers to lead the team with eight points (3-5-8). Schryver is fifth nationally, averaging 1.50 assists per game. Hoskin has added three assists to post seven points. The Bobcats have 33 helpers so far on the season.
  • Corinne Schroeder and Logan Angers have split starts for the Bobcats as both have started twice. Each goaltender has allowed two goals and holds a 1.00 goals-against average. Schroder has a .950 save percentage while Angers sits at .938.
  • Quinnipiac is has registered three power play goals on 19 chances this season, converting at 15.8% with the extra player. The Bobcats' shorthanded units have allowed one goal on eight power play chances. On face-offs, Quinnipiac has won them at a 59.5% percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. QUINNIPIAC
  • This will be the first and second meetings all-time between the Hawks and Bobcats.
  • The Hawks are 27-22-5 against current National Collegiate level competition outside of the current New England Women's Hockey Alliance membership. Saint Anselm has played Brown (0-1-1), Holy Cross (24-12-4), Maine (1-0), Princeton (0-2), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (0-1), Rochester Institute of Technology (3-2), St. Thomas (Minn.) (0-1), and Syracuse (0-3).
