MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team had a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the visiting Ravens from Franklin Pierce University put home three second-half goals on the way to a 3-1 victory over the Hawks on Tuesday.
Saint Anselm falls to 5-3-1 overall on the year and to 3-3-1 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Franklin Pierce snaps a two-game losing skid to the Hawks, moving to 5-2-2 on the season and to 2-2-2 versus the league.
Saint Anselm overwhelmed Franklin Pierce with 23 shots, limiting the visitors to just six attempts, but the Ravens cashed in with three goals on those six shots. The Hawks have out-shot their opponents by a combined 81-to-20 margin in the last four games, but own a 1-2-1 record and have scored just two goals.
Freshman Alyssa McColl (Stoughton, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal for the Hawks in the game's 26th minute and Saint Anselm appeared to be in complete control, limiting the Ravens to just two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
Anna Crapanzano brought the game even just 9:30 into the second half, using a highlight-reel boot over the head of Saint Anselm netminder Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) to put her team on the board first. The Ravens scored once again shortly thereafter as a long-distance free kick by Jasmine Perez-Acosta eluded the grasp of Macaluso to create a 2-1 lead.
Shortly after Perez-Acosta's go-ahead goal, Franklin Pierce committed a foul in the box while on defense, sending Saint Anselm to the spot with a chance to equalize. The penalty kick struck the right post for the Hawks and the ensuing rebound was sent away by Franklin Pierce, who maintained its one-goal lead.
An insurance goal was scored by Hailey Goodman in the game's 67th minute. An initial shot attempt by Viridiana Vazquez Kloss was punched out by Macaluso, but Goodman crashed the right post and easily tapped the ball into the vacant net.
Macaluso drew the loss, conceding on three of the six shots that she faced. Gabby Calidonio made 10 saves for Franklin Pierce, allowing just the McColl marker.
Saint Anselm heads to American International this Saturday, Oct. 9 for a 4 p.m. showdown. The Hawks enjoy a three-match unbeaten streak against the Yellow Jackets that dates back to 2017.
