The Hawks came out on top of a five-set battle with Stonehill on Tuesday, Oct. 19, snapping a nine-match win streak for the Skyhawks. Saint Anselm is now 13-5 on the season with a 3-2 record in NE10 play. The Hawks have seven matches on the schedule after hosting the Greyhounds, including home games versus Saint Rose, Le Moyne, and Franklin Pierce in a five-day span.
The Greyhounds won in straight sets over Pace on Friday, Oct. 22. Assumption has gone 5-3 since matching up with the Hawks earlier this season in what was a non-conference meeting. Assumption is 7-6 on the year with a 5-2 record league play. The Greyhounds play four consecutive matches away from Worcester, Mass. before wrapping-up the season by hosting New Haven on Tuesday, Nov. 9 and Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Nov. 13.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks won sets two, three, and five en route to the five-set win over Stonehill. The largest set score victory was three points, as the Hawks snapped a nine-match win streak for the Skyhawks.
- Junior Lauren Casey (Jefferson City, Mo.), sophomore Audrey Simmons (North Hampton, N.H.), and freshman Gabby Belcher (Buckeye, Ariz.) all finished the match with double-digit kills. The trio have more than 135 kills each on the season as Casey leads the way with 169 followed by Simmons at 142 and Belcher at 135. Casey is averaging a team-high 2.82 kills per set and is 14th best in the conference.
- Junior Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) threw up 45 assists against Stonehill. She now sits at 607 on the season and has a career-total of 1,701, which is good for sixth all-time in the Saint Anselm volleyball program history. The co-captain has eclipsed 40 assists in each of the last four matches and has six matches with 40 or more on the season.
- Junior co-captain Caroline Belmontez (San Diego, Calif.) led all players with 24 digs while Casey followed closely with 20. Belmontez has at least 20 digs in two matches, both coming in five-set victories over Bridgeport and Stonehill. She is averaging 4.14 digs per set and has a total of 232, both are team-highs.
- Saint Anselm ranks fifth nationally in service aces per set at 2.47. Belmontez and sophomore Alina Barbarena (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) all are inside the conference top-10 in aces per set. Belmontez is the league leader, averaging 0.54 per set.
- The Hawks currently sit in sixth-place in the conference standings with a .600 win percentage. The team has played the least amount of conference matches with five while four squads have played eight matches.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
- The Greyhounds cruised to a 3-0 victory over Pace on Friday, Oct. 22, winning the opening set by a 25-16 score and following that up with scores of 25-13 and 25-12. Carly Goodhue led all players with nine kills while Anna Dean followed closely with eight. Kyra Belden added 28 assists while Barbara Illig registered a match-high 22 digs.
- Alexis Distasio leads the team with 135 kills, averaging 2.93 kills per set. Goodhue ranks second with 109 total kills and 2.66 kills per set.
- Belden ranks sixth in the NE10 with 9.17 assists per set. She has a total of 422 assists on the season. Belden also leads the team with 20 service aces, averaging 0.43 per set which is tied for fifth with Saint Anselm's Barbarena.
- Illig has the fourth-highest digs per set average, 4.78. She has accumulated 220 digs in 46 sets this season. Distasio ranks second on the team with 108 total digs.
- Alana Hruska has recorded 16 solo blocks and 26 assisted for 42 total blocks on the season. She is averaging 0.91 blocks per set which is second-best in the NE10.
- Assumption sits in fifth in the conference standings with a 5-2 record and a .714 win percentage. On the season, the Greyhounds have played just 13 matches which is the second-fewest when compared to NE10 opponents.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
- This is the second meeting of the season between the two squads as the Hawks posted a 3-0 victory on Sept. 17.
- This will be the 52nd meeting all-time between the Hawks and Greyhounds. The Hawks lead the all-time series, 31-20.
- The last eight meetings have gone to Saint Anselm with combined set scores of 24-4.
- In seven of the last nine seasons, the teams have met twice during the season which is continued again this season.
