Saint Anselm, who recently moved up to the No. 6 ranking in all of NCAA Division II, has won five games in a row, all five of them via shutout – across that span, the Hawks have outscored the opposition by a combined 14-0 margin and have not conceded a goal across the previous 301:49 of game play.
Molloy is in search of its first victory of the 2021 campaign, owning an overall record of 0-11 while remaining winless in nine tilts against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Joining the league prior to the 2019 season, the Lions are looking to snap a losing streak of 26 games on Saturday.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm finds itself among the five teams listed in the first official set of NCAA Division II Field Hockey rankings. The Hawks check in as the No. 2-ranked team in the East Region, trailing the top-ranked program from Assumption while sitting ahead of Bentley, Stonehill and Adelphi in the top five.
- Saint Anselm, the runner-up in the 2019 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship, currently owns a 12-3 overall record and a 9-2 mark against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Winners of five consecutive games, the Hawks have yet to play the top-ranked team in the region, Assumption (13-1), and will do so on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in Worcester, Mass.
- Saint Anselm ranks second in NCAA Division II in shutouts per game (0.53) after posting eight so far in 2021. The Hawks made it all the way to the national title game in 2019 with tight defense, posting an NCAA Division II record with 20 shutouts in one season – the Hawks have 28 clean sheets in their last 39 games played.
- The Hawks most recently secured a 1-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Monday, Oct. 18. Saint Anselm has defeated the Penmen in each of the 13 meetings in program history and did not allow Southern New Hampshire to take a single shot in the contest.
- Across the previous two games for Saint Anselm, the team has not yielded a single shot on goal and dating back to the start of the four-game shutout streak, the Hawks have held a 50-to-8 advantage in shots. Saint Anselm has won nine of its last 10 games.
- Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.), who picked up an assist on the game-winning goal against Southern New Hampshire, leads the team with nine goals and two assists for 20 points (9-2=20). She ranks fourth all-time in career points with 67 to her credit (29-9=67).
LOOKING AT THE LIONS
- Despite the winless record, Molloy has played several close games during the 2021 season. The Lions lost their season opener to Mercy (N.Y.) by a narrow 1-0 margin and fell to Stonehill, ranked seventh in the country, on Saturday, Oct. 9 by a 2-0 score.
- Kyra Dalli has scored three of her team's four goals on the season. Kassandra Sakhat set up the first two of Dalli's goals and, most recently, Hailey Fiordiliso found the scoresheet at Mercy (N.Y.) last time out on Oct. 20.
- The tandem of Kelsey Price and Ally Saigh has posted 106 saves in goal on the season, conceding an average of 4.91 goals per game between them. The Lions goalkeepers have posted a combined save percentage of .663 on the year.
ALL-TIME vs. MOLLOY
- Saint Anselm owns a 1-0 record in the all-time series against Molloy, winning an 8-0 contest on Sept. 21, 2019.
- The Hawks did not allow a single shot attempt by the Lions with Michelle Lemelin '20 scoring three goals, producing the eighth hat trick in team history. Ericka Meissner '21 added two goals and an assist as well.
