The Hawks went 1-1 in their last week of action as they fell to cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire in four sets on Tuesday before rebounding with a four-set win on Wednesday over Saint Michael's. Saint Anselm is now 12-5 on the season with a 2-2 record in Northeast-10 Conference play. After hosting the Skyhawks, Saint Anselm has a week with no contests and returns on Tuesday, Oct. 26 when Assumption comes to the Hilltop.
The Skyhawks extended their winning streak to nine games with a 3-0 win over Saint Michael's on Saturday. The win streak has stretched nearly a month as it started on Sept. 21 with a non-conference win over Bentley. Stonehill is now 14-5 on the season and is unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The Skyhawks return home for a weekend pair of matches as they host Le Moyne on Friday, Oct. 22 and Saint Rose on Saturday, Oct. 23.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks opened the season at 9-2 but have gone 3-3 since beating Southern New Hampshire in their non-conference meeting on Sept. 21. On the season, Saint Anselm ranks third nationally in service aces per set at 2.46. The Hawks lead the conference in service aces per set, hitting percentage (.244), and opponent hitting percentage (.126) while ranking third in kills per set (12.82) and total service aces (140).
- Junior Lauren Casey (Jefferson City, Mo.) posted 19 kills in the prior two matches and leads the team with 156 kills, averaging 2.84 per set. Freshman Gabby Belcher (Buckeye, Ariz.) is third on the team, averaging 2.32 per set and leading the team with 20 through the two-match week.
- Junior Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) now sits at 562 for the season after posting 42 and 40 assists in the back-to-back matches. She now sits sixth in the program record book with 1,653 assists. For her career, she is averaging 9.03 assists per set which ranks her in second through 183 career sets.
- Junior Caroline Belmontez (San Diego, Calif.) leads the conference averaging 0.57 service aces per set and ranks 20th nationally. She has 29 total aces and is also leading the Hawks defensive efforts, averaging 4.08 digs per set. Her career mark of 4.20 digs per set would rank second in program history through 178 sets.
- The Hawks currently sit ninth in the NE10 standings with a .500-win percentage. Saint Anselm and Stonehill have played the least amount of conference matches when compared to other league opponents.
SCOUTING STONEHILL
- The Skyhawks opened the season with four losses in the Shark Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Since then, Stonehill is 14-1 with its lone loss coming against Daemen in the final match of the Roberts Wesleyan tournament on Sept. 18. The Skyhawks are riding a nine-match win streak and hold a 27-8 set score advantage during the stretch.
- Abby Remick leads the team in kills with 207, averaging 3.09 kills per set which is seventh most in the conference.
- Leading the transition game is Lauren Wilke, who has collected 533 assists. She is averaging a team-high 7.84 assists per set.
- Carly Russell is sixth in the conference with 291 total digs. Wilke has chipped in 167 digs while Remick has posted 148 digs.
- Shannon Burgess has 46 total blocks, 13 solo and 33 assisted which ranks eighth in the NE10. Clare Freeman has 10 solo blocks and 25 assisted for 35 total blocks, ranking second on the team.
- Stonehill joins New Haven in a tie for the top-spot in the conference with a 1.000-win percentage. The Skyhawks have downed American International, Southern New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce, and Saint Michael's in league matches.
ALL-TIME vs. STONEHILL
- This is the 40th meeting all-time between the two programs. Stonehill leads the all-time series, 22-17.
- The Hawks and Skyhawks will meet for the second time this season as the Skyhawks posted a 3-0 win in a non-conference contest back on Sept. 23.
- Saint Anselm won the first meeting on Oct. 7, 1980 by a 2-0 score. The Skyhawks won the next eight meetings before the Hawks set the all-series record with 10 consecutive wins. The win streak stretched from Sept. 26, 1998 to Oct. 19, 2004.
- Most recently, each team has won two of the last four matches with Stonehill winning the last two.
