MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team picked up its fifth consecutive shutout victory on Monday, defeating the Penmen from Southern New Hampshire University by a 1-0 margin at Grappone Stadium.
Saint Anselm has now won 13 consecutive games over the Penmen, including the last four matches in the all-time series via shutout. The Hawks move to 12-3 overall on the year following the non-conference win – the Penmen, who lost at Larkin Field to the Hawks earlier this year, drop to 3-9 overall.
The Hawks did not allow the Penmen a single shot attempt in the contest, firing 17 shots of their own in the victory. Across the previous two games for Saint Anselm, the team has not yielded a single shot on goal and dating back to the start of the four-game shutout streak, the Hawks have held a 50-to-8 advantage in shots.
Playing to a 0-0 deadlock through the first half, junior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) tipped home a shot by classmate Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) just 8:29 into the third quarter, scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal. For Malloy, it is her fourth career goal and LaCasse picked up an assist, logging at least one point in four consecutive games (5-1=11).
Sophomore Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) was not forced to make a save. Kate Pigsley conceded one goal on four shots faced while the Penmen had a pair with one defensive save each.
Saint Anselm heads to Molloy this Saturday, Oct. 23 for a high-noon Northeast-10 Conference tilt with the hosts in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
