MANCHESTER, N.H. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's soccer team scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 Senior Day win over Pace on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 7-3-1 overall with a 5-3-1 record in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Setters drop to 4-6-3 on the season and 2-5-3 in league matches. The Hawks have a week off from games and head to Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, Oct. 23. The match from New Haven, Conn. kicks off at 5 p.m.
Prior to the start of the match, the Hawks honored their five seniors,
Marissa Greene (Lowell, Mass.),
Olivia Maier (Sherborn, Mass.),
Regan Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.),
Travis Pratt (Newburyport, Mass.), and
Liz Shaievitz (Lynnfield, Mass.).
Pace opened the scoring in the 11th minute after a foul was called on the Hawks just outside their 18-yard box.
Cecilia Puentes touched the free kick back to
Isabel Villar, who fired a right-footed shot off the indirect kick into the top right of the goal, giving the Setters a 1-0 lead.
Saint Anselm would find the back of the net twice in just over four minutes of play, starting in the 22nd minute.
Regan Pratt drove down the left side of the field and into the box, firing a right-footed shot past
Perri Anderson, scoring her second goal of the season.
Sophomore
Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) registered what would be the game-winning goal in the 26th minute. Junior
Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) sent a corner kick toward the left post for Gotobed, who headed home the second goal for Saint Anselm, giving the Hawks a 2-1 edge.
In the final minute of the first half, freshman
Sydney Wnek (Haverhill, Mass.) maintained possession down into the right corner. She sent a service to the middle of the box for classmate
Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.), who volleyed the ball out the air, scoring her first collegiate goal and sending the teams to the intermission with a 3-1 lead for the Hawks.
Gotobed would record her second goal of the match in the 53rd minute after collecting a long forward pass from Wnek. She quickly touched the pass down to her left and fired a left-footed shot from about 20 yards out and into the upper right corner. Gotobed's brace puts her in a tie for third in the conference with six goals.
Sophomore
Alexandra Baltas (Worcester, Mass.) joined in on the career-firsts on the afternoon, coming into the game in the 77th minute and taking the ensuing corner kick. She sent a high-arcing ball toward the back post and it found its way into the back of the net for a 5-1 lead for Saint Anselm.
Saint Anselm held a 14-11 advantage with an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Pace was awarded six corner kicks to just three for the Hawks.
Junior
Kate Macaluso (Malverne, N.Y.) made four saves in the winning effort, improving to 7-3-1 on the season. Anderson allowed three goals in the first half, making one save. She falls to 2-4-2 whole
Annabella Cole came on in relief to start the second half. She made two saves on four shots on goal.
