PREVIEW: Women's tennis to celebrate Senior Day vs. Bentley

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team will play host to Bentley University on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.

The Hawks will honor and recognize their two senior student-athletes, Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) and Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.), in a post-match ceremony. The match will be the final one played at the Derryfield Courts for the fall semester.

Saint Anselm is coming off a 5-2 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday, Oct. 9 and owns a 4-8 overall record on the year. Bentley has lost five matches in a row, only defeating Assumption on Sept. 14 before blanking Saint Michael's, 7-0, on Sept. 26.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Freshman Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) is riding a two-match winning streak in singles play, earning wins in her last two matches after opening her singles career with an 0-2 record. She has also burst onto the scene in doubles play, winning her last four doubles matches to move to 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
  • Freshman Elle Doucette (Newburyport, Mass.) has also logged standout performances in doubles play, partnering with Abigail Svor at the No. 3 doubles slot. She has also produced three wins at No. 5 singles for the Hawks.
  • Freshman Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) has won a team-leading five singles matches, one at the No. 3 position and the remainder coming at No. 4 singles. She trails Abigail Svor for the team lead with five doubles victories, all of those coming at No. 2 doubles with partners Jacy and junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine).
  • Saint Anselm has won five consecutive No. 3 doubles matches dating back to Oct. 1, 2021.
  • Jacy is a four-year member of the Saint Anselm roster, winning 14 singles and 14 doubles matches in her career. As a freshman in 2018-19, she posted five victories, including three at No. 4 singles, and later moved her way up the lineup, competing in eight matches for the Hawks at No. 1 singles in 2020-21.
  • In two seasons with Saint Anselm, Hulbert has posted three singles victories and a doubles win in her career. She claimed her first collegiate singles win against American International on Oct. 6, 2019 and most recently partnered with Kapothanasis for her first collegiate doubles victory on Mar. 25, 2021 against Bentley.

PREVIEWING THE FALCONS

  • Bentley has lost five consecutive matches, falling to 2-6 overall and to 2-6 in league play.
  • Bentley won the doubles point against Stonehill on Oct. 6, claiming victories at No. 2 and No. 3, but the Skyhawks eased past the Falcons in singles competition.
  • Against Le Moyne last time out, Bentley was tripped up by a 7-0 score. The Falcons won a combined seven games in doubles play and Le Moyne picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles on the afternoon.
  • Senior Alessa Matuty and Makena Romagnano are the team's co-captains, playing as the squad's top doubles team. Matuty entered the 2021-22 campaign as the team's leader in singles wins since the start of the 2018-19 season.

ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY

  • The Falcons ousted Saint Anselm in the First Round of the NE10 postseason on Sunday, Apr. 25, logging a 4-0 victory in the Hawks first playoffs appearance since the 2011 season.
  • Bentley holds the all-time edge in the series over the Hawks, winning 29 of the 45 matches played.
  • The Falcons have claimed wins in 26 of the prior 29 contests dating back to Oct. 14, 1996, including a series-long winning streak of 14.
  • The Hawks most recently won on Oct. 12, 2018, recording a 5-2 decision.
