No. 8 field hockey logs third consecutive shutout victory

RINDGE, N.H. – Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) scored two goals for the Saint Anselm College field hockey team on Wednesday, helping the nationally-ranked Hawks to a 5-0 shutout victory over the Ravens at Sodexo Field.

Saint Anselm (10-3, 8-2 NE10) posted its third consecutive shutout, bringing the season total to six clean sheets across 13 games to date. The Hawks have not conceded a goal across the prior 181:49 of game play dating back to Oct. 4 against Adelphi.

LaCasse moves into fifth place on the Saint Anselm all-time point scoring list, having scored 27 goals and eight assists for 62 career points (27-8=62), passing Michelle Lemelin '20 and her 60 career points from 2016-19. Her 27 goals is fourth all-time in team annals.

LaCasse got her team on the board with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half, redirecting a drive from junior Shelby Dunn (Yarmouthport, Mass.) home past Franklin Pierce netminder Addy Araneo. The Hawks would score one more before halftime as junior Avery Tucker (Westbrook, Maine) cashed in on a giveaway with 18 seconds left in the opening 30 minutes.

Scoring her team-leading seventh goal of the year just 10:08 into the third quarter, LaCasse scored once again off a Dunn assist to up her team's advantage to 3-0. Sophomore Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) tipped home a shot from freshman Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) just minutes later, creating a 4-0 lead, before freshman Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) posted her first collegiate goal in the game's final minute.

Sophomore Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) posted four saves and both Dunn and freshman Grace Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.) added defensive saves for the Hawks. Araneo conceded five goals on 16 shots, drawing the loss for the home team.

Franklin Pierce posted 11 shots in the defeat while the Hawks fired 25 shots in the game. Including the game against the Ravens on Sept. 4, the Hawks have fired their top two season-high totals in shots against Franklin Pierce (27, 25).

Saint Anselm will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 16, hosting the Yellow Jackets from American International College at 1 p.m.
