WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team secured a 6-1 victory on Saturday against West Virginia Wesleyan to conclude its eight-game Florida trip.

After sending the Bobcats to their 15th defeat in 16 games this season, Saint Anselm now owns a 6-6 record to date, matching last year's win total through just 12 games in 2020. The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 11, heading to New Haven for a 3 p.m. contest against the Chargers.
The Hawks trailed 1-0 through two complete innings, but scored six unanswered runs to take the victory. Senior Ryan Schworer (Medfield, Mass.) had a stellar outing on the bump for Saint Anselm, fanning 10 batters and pitching seven strong innings of one-run ball. Freshman Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) led the charge with three hits in four at-bats.
Saint Anselm tied the game at one only two batters into the fourth inning as sophomore Logan Doran (Stony Brook, N.Y.) singled to center before Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) singled. Following a miscue by the West Virginia Wesleyan right fielder, Doran came around to score on the play.
Pierro would later steal third and be driven in by sophomore Drew Boli (Falmouth, Mass.) for the second run of the frame. Borrelli tacked on a run-batted-in groundout to round out the scoring.
Sophomore Chris Schworer (Medfield, Mass.) added to the Hawks run total in the top of the eighth inning, singling to right field to drive in Boli, who led off the inning on base via an error. Borrelli doubled to left field in his at-bat later in the inning, scoring Schworer, before Brady Doran (Stony Brook, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Borrelli from third base.
Sophomore David Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) pitched strong in relief for Saint Anselm, coming on in the eighth inning and retiring all six batters he faced across the final two innings, three via strikeout.
The triumvirate of Bobcats that took the mound conceded just one earned run, allowing five of the unearned variety. Saint Anselm picked up nine hits in the contest as seven student-athletes recorded at least one hit.
