AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College baseball team rallied from a six-run deficit, but committed eight fielding errors on the way to a 16-7 loss against Cedarville on Monday.

The Hawks, who opened their season with a 4-0 record, fall to 4-4 on the year while Cedarville improves to 5-4 on the young campaign. Saint Anselm looks to rebound strong on Tuesday against Wilmington (Del.) at 9:30 a.m.
Saint Anselm mustered only four hits, led by two from sophomore Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.). Senior Salvatore Pezzolla (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had the other two hits for the hawks, driving in a game-high two runs for the Hawks. Saint Anselm did draw 11 walks in the game, however, as freshman Brady Doran (Stony Brook, N.Y.) had two free passes and scored two runs.
Down by a 6-0 margin after three-and-a-half innings, the Hawks produced six runs over the next three innings to tie the game. Sophomore Enzo Merlonghi (Monroe, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning before Brady Doran swiped home in a two-run frame for Saint Anselm.
The Hawks tacked on four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as sophomore Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) reached via catcher's interference, plating a run to start the rally. Junior Max Silverman (Westford, Mass.) was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded before Pezzolla drove in two with a two-RBI single down the left field line.
Outside of an RBI single from Collins in the bottom of the eighth, Cedarville cruised to the victory with 10 runs in the final innings on the way to victory.
Freshman Dylan Bedder (New Providence, N.J.) drew the loss despite not allowing an earned run on the day. He did, however, concede six runs on the day while walking seven batters, striking out five.
Relievers Jared Ferris (Salisbury, Mass.), Travis MacMurdo (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Taylor French (Goffstown, N.H.) combined to allow 10 runs, only five earned, and eight hits across the game's final five innings.
The top seven hitters in the Cedarville lineup each scored at least one run with three student-athletes crossing home plate three times. Brendan Toungate led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, driving in three runs.
