HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team concluded its 2019-20 campaign with a win over Southern New Hampshire University, 4-2, on Saturday.

With a Franklin Pierce victory over Assumption earlier in the day, Saint Anselm sees its season come to an end with a 13-13-2 overall record and an 8-8-2 record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. This season is the first that Saint Anselm will miss the NE10 postseason.
Southern New Hampshire also sees its season end with the Franklin Pierce win, capping the year with a 10-15 overall record alongside an 8-10 mark in NE10 play.
After a tie game through the opening 20 minutes, the Hawks scored two straight power-play goals in the first six minutes of the second stanza to boost their lead to 3-1. Those two tallies were enough for the Hawks to capture the regular-season finale.
The Penmen struck first at 6:47 as Brett Strawn put the hosts up, 1-0. Following a senior Chris Googins (Braintree, Mass.) cross-checking penalty at 17:49 of the period, the Hawks were able to score short-handed as freshman Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) netted the equalizer at 19:42 of the opening stanza.
Just 26 seconds into the next period, senior Sean Verrier (Reading, Mass.) kept the Hawks momentum going, earning the first of two power-play tallies. Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) followed with his own power play goal just five minutes later, increasing the Hawks lead to 3-1.
Cole Stewart cut the Penmen deficit to a one-goal margin at 9:14 of the period, capping the second period scoring.
Just four seconds into a power play for the hosts, senior Trey Aiello (Williamsburg, Va.) clinched the Hawks win with a short-handed goal at 11:45 of the final stanza.
In net, sophomore Michal Soustal (Unicov, Czech Republic) recorded 37 saves, yielding two goals. Soustal's counterpart, Kurt Gutting, had 52 stops in the loss. As a team, the Hawks committed 13 infractions on 42 minutes while the Penmen recorded 11 penalties for 30 minutes. Saint Anselm had a 56-39 shots advantage at the end of regulation.
Aiello wrapped up his collegiate career as the all-time leader in games played with 111, scoring 32 goals and 24 assists for 56 points.
