NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team dropped a crucial Northeast-10 Conference contest to Stonehill College on Tuesday night, 6-4, at Lawler Rink on the campus of Merrimack College.

The loss sends the Hawks to an even 11-11-2 overall record and a 6-6-2 mark in NE10 play. The Skyhawks improve to 8-10-4 overall and 5-5-3 in conference play. Saint Anselm hits the road to take on Franklin Pierce on Friday, Feb. 14 for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
Stonehill struck first early in the first period with a goal from Mike Seoane, but it only took the Hawks three minutes to return the favor with the first of three power-play goals on the night for Saint Anselm. Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) sent the puck from the left circle for a one-timer blast by senior Mike Ferraro (Northbridge, Mass.), netting the opening tally for the Hawks.
Stonehill pulled away from Saint Anselm with three straight goals between the middle of the first period and six minute mark of the second period, thanks to markers from Charles Page, Ryan Meade, and Jack Hall.
The Hawks cut the lead in half with their second power-play goal of the game. Junior John Femia (Canton, Mass.) received a pass from junior Matt Chisholm (Scituate, Mass.) in the slot at the 7:42 mark.
The Skyhawks increased the pressure and added two goals late in the second stanza to finish the period with a 6-2 cushion.
Trailing by four, the Hawks attempted a furious comeback in the final stanza but only managed to muster up two more goals before the final horn sounded. The Hawks cut into the lead to 6-3 with their third power-play goal of the game. Iacullo wristed a shot from the right circle through the defense at 10:58 and found the back of the net. Saint Anselm cut the deficit with a senior Trey Aiello (Williamsburg, Va.) snipe with 5:38 left in regulation. Ferraro assisted in Iacullo's goal, recording his 80th point of the career.
In his second career appearance in net, sophomore Alex Daccord (North Andover, Mass.) earned the loss, recording 11 saves for the first 34 minutes. Classmate Michal Soustal (Unicov, Czech Republic) finished the contest, earning seven saves. Matthew Schoen of the Skyhawks registered 44 stops, capturing his seventh win of the 2019-20 campaign.
The Hawks doubled the Skyhawks' shots on goal for the night, 48-24. Saint Anselm went 3-for-7 on the man-up opportunity, its first time scoring three goals with the extra man since Dec. 6 against Assumption.
