Women's basketball scrimmages, salutes seniors on Saturday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) made her debut for the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team on Saturday, scoring a game-high 22 points to help the blue team to a 51-45 victory over the white team in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Playing four 10-minute quarters with a running clock, Turco was able to rack up 22 points and seven rebounds in just over 36 minutes of action. She was assisted by an 11-rebound, nine-point effort by Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.), a sophomore, who played all 40 minutes for the Hawks. Senior Jen Peel () and freshman Gia Bramanti (Andover, Mass.) posted eight rebounds each.

Senior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) had the game's lone double-double, posting 11 points with 10 rebounds, with sophomore Macy Spinks (Luton, England) cashing in with eight points.

Freshman Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) nearly posted a double-double for the white team, scoring 11 points with seven rebounds.

The blue team jumped ahead to an 11-4 lead after a layup by Stephanie Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.), but freshman Olivia Bonee (West Hartford, Conn.) poured home the first of her two three-point baskets on the day to slow the blue team's momentum. A five-point scoring run by the white team, fueled by a layup from Quirolo and a trey from Mckenzie Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine), shrunk their team's deficit to 13-12.

With the contest tied at 20, the blue team notched the final six points of the first half to build a 26-20 lead at the break. Robles had four of those six points, including two on the fast break, to secure the advantage heading into the third period for the blue squad.

The teams played to a 33-33 deadlock with 1:35 to go in the third stanza, but a three-point basket by Quirolo preceded a layup by Steinman with six seconds left to give the white team apparent momentum.

The opposite proved to be true, however, as the blue team took complete control in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 of the game's final 24 points to come away with the victory. Turco had nine of her 22 points in the final 10 minutes alone, making all four of her shots.

Senior Jenoyce Laniyan (Bedford, N.H.) had nine rebounds, playing a team-leading 40 minutes for the Hawks on the white team. Laniyan and her fellow seniors, Grace Guachione (Pittsfield, Mass.), Jen Peel (Mansfield, Mass.), Steinman and Kaitlyn Petrocelli (Merrimack, N.H.) were honored in a pre-game ceremony prior to the contest.

The five seniors helped Saint Anselm to 60 wins in four years, including at least 20 victories in back-to-back seasons. The group also secured the program's first-ever NCAA Division II East Region Championship in 2019 and this past March, Saint Anselm made it all the way to the Northeast-10 Conference title game and earned the College's ninth appearance in the NCAA Division II postseason.
