Women's ice hockey downed by Franklin Pierce, 5-1

WINCHENDON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team was turned away by the host Ravens from Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday by a 5-1 final score.

Saint Anselm drops to 13-10-3 on the year and to 10-5-1 in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action. Franklin Pierce has won three of this season's four regular season meetings against the Hawks, improving to 17-7 overall (10-4 NEWHA).

Franklin Pierce pushed ahead with two first-period goals from Delaney Guimont, carrying a 2-0 lead into the second stanza. The Ravens' Nicole Amato made it a 3-0 game with a goal near the midpoint of the period. Through 40 minutes of action, Franklin Pierce dominated the shots statistic with 23 to their credit.

With only 10 shots through two periods, Saint Anselm opened the third period with a Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) goal at 4:18 to cut into the Ravens momentum. Franklin Pierce kept the Hawks at arm's length throughout the remainder of regulation, tacking on two late goals to ease past Saint Anselm on its home ice.

Hawks netminder Kia Castonguay (Ipswich, Mass.) conceded five goals on 32 shots. Emme Ostrander backstopped Franklin Pierce to the four-goal win, allowing only one tally on 24 shots against.

Franklin Pierce used two power play markers on the way to victory while the Hawks power play was blanked for the fifth consecutive game.

Saint Anselm heads to Sacred Heart on Friday, Feb. 7, taking on the Pioneers at 4 p.m. in NEWHA action.
