PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey squad trailed twice against Brown University but came back to net two late third-period goals to tie the Bears, 3-3, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.

The Hawks wrapped up the weekend with a 13-9-3 overall record while the Bears move to 3-15-2 on the year. Saint Anselm, who becomes the first New England Women's Hockey Alliance member this season to earn a non-conference, out-of-league win or tie, remains on the road as they travel to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, Jan. 28 for an 8 p.m. matchup.
Trailing by one heading into the third period, the Hawks scored twice to even the game at three with 6:16 remaining in the third period. Junior Madison Sprague (White Bear Lake, Minn.) received a turnover on the offensive side, scoring to cut the deficit to one. Two minutes later, freshman Marissa Agerter (Eagan, Minn.) scored the equalizer at 13:44 off a pass from the right side to even the game at three.
The Bears held possession for most of the overtime period as they had a 5-1 shots advantage, but neither team converted on any chances.
Shay Maloney got the Bears on the board first at 14:20 as she turned the corner from behind the net and found her way into the slot, knuckling a shot past senior goaltender Michaela Kane (Haverhill, Mass.), producing the first tally of the game. The Bears finished the first period outshooting the Hawks, 25-7.
The Hawks tied the game at one in the second period as sophomore Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) dished a pass from behind the net to senior Kaley Campbell (Colchester, Vt.). Sitting in the slot, Campbell fired a one-timer into the left side of the goal for the equalizer at 7:40.
With nine seconds left in the second stanza, Jacquie Tam skated up the left side of the ice. As she approached the crease, she pulled her stick back and scored to give the Bears a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Brown led by a 3-1 margin in the third period as Lizzy Gross upped her team's lead to two only 3:10 into the period.
Kane totaled 36 saves as she improves to 6-5-1 on the year. Her counterpart, Hayley Kliczko, finished with 19 stops. Junior Katy Meehan (Quincy, Mass.) led the squad with 10 face-off wins over 23 attempts. Golini recorded two assists in the game.
Senior Amanda Conger (Swanton, Vt.) moved up in a tie for second all-time in games played in a career as she recorded her 108th game played.
