MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey squad skated to a 1-1 tie with Williams on Tuesday at Sullivan Arena.
Box Score
The Hawks record now stands at 13-8-2 on the season while the Ephs see their record move to 8-4-3. Saint Anselm returns to action on Friday, traveling to Brown for a 6 p.m. contest.
Down by a 1-0 margin late in the third period, senior Kaley Campbell (Colchester, Vt.) brought the game even with her fifth goal of the season at 14:39. Freshman Marissa Agerter (Eagan, Minn.) was able to pick up the loose puck and send it forward, despite being tripped up on the play. Campbell carried it in across the red and blue lines, firing a long-range blast inside the left post.
Saint Anselm started the contest by outshooting the visiting Ephs by a 16-5 margin in the first period. The Hawks came up with the biggest scoring chance in the opening stanza as sophomore Amanda Nylander (Hanover, Minn.) found the back of the net, but the tally was waved off by the officials for goaltender interference.
Williams applied heavy pressure in the second and third periods, outshooting Saint Anselm by a combined 30-to-9 margin. The Ephs cashed in first, taking advantage of a Hawks bench minor for too many players as Gabi Montembeault beat Hawks backstop Kia Castonguay (Ipswich, Mass.) to elevate Williams to a 1-0 lead at 12:25.
The game remained knotted up as the third period buzzer sounded, sending the game to an extra period. Despite a furious offensive effort by the Hawks that included a 5-on-3 power play advantage with under 15 seconds to go, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Castonguay recorded a career-high 35 saves on the night. Her counterpart, Marissa Anderson, posted 28 stops.
