Volleyball cruises to win over Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon against Saint Michael's College at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm won by set scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-20. The Hawks improve to 11-7 on the year and 3-1 in NE10 play. The Purple Knights drop to 1-11 on the season.

Saint Anselm turned in its best team hitting percentage performance of the season (42-12-86 | .349) since hitting .354 against Assumption on Sept. 20.

Freshman Lois Dogbe (Winchester, Calif.) posted a career and team-high eight kills on 19 swings while freshman Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) set 20 of the team's 42 kills on the day while Georgia DuMars (York, Pa.) added 12. Junior Jordan Schamp (Plymouth, Mich.) also recorded her highest single-match digs total with 13.

In the first set, the Hawks controlled from start to finish, posting the 25-8 win. Saint Anselm opened the match with a 14-3 lead, capped by a senior Catie McCarthy (Warrenton, Va.) kill. The Hawks used another 11-2 run to cruise to the opening set win.

Saint Anselm kept the momentum going in the second set, earning an early 10-6 lead following a freshman Kam Blaskey (Ventura, Calif.) kill. Saint Michael's Brigid Heinrich recorded a kill to pull the Purple Knights to within one, 12-11. The Hawks finished the second set with seven straight points, thanks to two service aces by freshman Colleen Chen (Superior, Colo.). The Hawks rolled to the 25-14 second set triumph.

In the third, Blaskey finished an early 10-3 run for the Hawks with a kill as Saint Anselm held on to the lead by two or more the remainder of the set, earning the 25-20 win and the 3-0 sweep.

Heinrich and Sarah Scott led Saint Michael's with five kills each. Katy Konow posted a team-best 13 assists.

The Hawks next travel to Southern New Hampshire for a NE10 and Queen City Cup matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
